Sleep Token fans everywhere gathered in worship last week, April 30th, in Phoenix, AZ…and most are still buzzing from the beauty of the Teeth of God tour. The anonymous metal band was in their prime as they debuted new masks, lighting effects, and a setlist that spanned the entirety of their impressive discography.
On the heels of their much-buzzed-about headlining set at Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas, the quintet came out swinging with a series of tour debuts. They reached into their older catalog with “The Night Does Not Belong to God,” “The Offering,” and “Dark Signs,” all of which can be found on their 2019 debut, Sundowning. And all accompanied by singer Vessel’s signature in-song dance jigs and enigmatic stage presence.
Covered from head to toe in a cloak, mask, and black body paint, Vessel’s true identity remains a conundrum as he refuses to even speak between songs. But for a man shrouded in mystery, he’s quickly become one of metal’s most famous frontmen. Sleep Token continued with their most roaring progressive metal hits…dipping into their third and arguably most famous album, Take Me Back to Eden, which helped them rise to rock superstardom.
Fans were treated to ethereal performances of modern songs like “Chokehold,” “The Summoning,” “Granite,” “Rain” and “Ascenscionism,” along with a few more oldies. Who doesn’t love going back in time with “Alkaline” and “Missing Limbs?” In the meantime, the crowd was treated to illustrious light shows and non-verbal, but delightful in-song banter between Vessel and his bandmates — aptly called II, III, and IV.
And needless to say, it was everything you could expect from a Sleep Token concert. The evening was only made better with a send-off consisting of “Take Me Back to Eden” and a live debut of “Euclid!” The pioneers of “sexy metal” have made a name for themselves as one of the best genre-bending, eyebrow-raising, and insanely talented bands of our time, and you can’t miss your chance to see Sleep Token.
Sleep Token continues to tour across the country this spring, and they can’t wait to witness your excitement at their nightly rituals. Check out their full tour dates below and see the full Arizona setlist here.
