Today is Janet Jackson's Birthday

If it seem like Janet, pardon me, Miss Jackson, has been around forever, despite turning just 58 today, it's because she has been trying to get our attention since she could walk.

In both a blessing as a curse, Janet being the adorable little sister of the Jackson 5 came with more disadvantages than nepo plusses.

For example, how are you going to sing and dance better than any of your brothers, let alone the most famous one? Yet she entered that world anyway.

And once in that highly competitive world, one where she did not rely on her brothers (or sisters) as much as some may have, she dominated, selling over 100 million records and earning five Grammys.

She was even center of one of the most notorious (and unfair) Super Bowl halftime moments of all.

And one of the most iconic Rolling Stone covers in its long history.

The Together Again Tour she's about to embark on marks Miss Jackson’s 50th anniversary in showbiz while giving love to her biggest LPs; The Velvet Rope, janet, and Rhythm Nation which was released 35(!) years ago.

But the road to where she is now was not easy as was laid out in great detail in her 2022 self-titled docuseries.

Having to learn how to make a career and a life outside of her famous brothers' shadow is tough enough, but how do you do that when your family is close-knit, in part from growing up in a modest two-bedroom home with nine other siblings?

Janet figured it out and absorbed all she could learn from her older brothers and sisters and carved out her own style while never turning her back on her family.

Janet was scheduled to headline the stacked lineup of the Lovers and Friends concert in Las Vegas earlier this month, but inclement weather including high winds stopped her from being part of a bill that was to have included Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, Gwen Stefani, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Backstreet Boys, Ludacris, Kelly Rowland, T-Pain, TLC, Ashanti, Brandy, Monica, Mya, Kelis, MIA and many others.

Janet does not play with Mother Nature. In 2011, high winds was the cause of the cancellation of her show at the Indiana State Fair, and this footage shows you why the promotors pulled the plug there and the other weekend in Vegas.

Fun Fact: Only recently did Janet Jackson learn there was a thing called Hot Cheetos.

This is an excellent lesson to conversationalists like me that there is no such thing as a dumb question.

So guess what you should throw on stage instead of roses when Janet and Nelly hit the road in a few weeks.

Last year she did 36 dates, this year it's 35.

The Together Again Tour starts in the arena by Coachella, with stops at The Forum, the United Center, the Barclays in Brooklyn, and ending in July in Arizona.
