Sleeveless? Yes. Sphereless? No longer.
On Thursday night (5/22) Kenny Chesney walked out onto the technically advanced stage of the Sphere in Las Vegas to a sold out crowd and became the first Country artist to play the revolutionary venue.
Since opening on September 29, 2023, the Sphere in Las Vegas has hosted performances by U2, Phish, Dead & Company, the Eagles, Anyma, and Lenny Kravitz... but that's it.

Due to the nature of the video capabilities, tons of time and effort need to be invested in the graphics, otherwise fans will not have the mind-blowing experience that keeps people wanting to venture to the desert to see the dang thing.
“I have always said No Shoes Nation is voracious in how they consume our music and the live shows, especially in the stadiums,” Chesney said in January when they announced the 11-night residency at the 17,600 seat marvel.
“But now we have the potential with the way this theater is built, along with the super high-definition screen and sound, to almost have the music consume No Shoes Nation. The visuals and the mix will wrap around them, go over their heads and reinforce everything we’re doing on the stage," he continued.
“So, it’s not just seeing us, it’s having this whole new super vivid, full immersion way to experience the show, the band and absolutely the songs,” Chesney, who has over 4.39 billion streams on Spotify, said.
Often seen as a spiritual heir to the late Jimmy Buffett evoking sun-soaked escapism, but Chesney's comes with a more rooted and safe sensibility. He will most definitely clink cans of American beer with you on the beach or the bumper of your truck, but he can also get deep if you feel like going there.
But be careful, everything gets hotter when the sun goes down.
The 57-year-old Aries from Knoxville who was briefly married to Renée Zellweger in 2005, has been nominated for six Grammy's but has so far been shut out of the honor.
His last nomination was in 2018 when his LP Cosmic Hallelujah was in the running for Best Country Album. If you haven't noticed, it's a mighty impacted group, teeming with legends and chart toppers.
Here's who have won the Grammy for Country Album over the last 20 years and ask yourself if you'd want to be nominated against any of them: Loretta Lynn, Alison Krauss, Dixie Chicks, Vince Gill, George Strait, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, Zac Brown Band, Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Tanya Tucker, Willie Nelson, Lainey Wilson, and Beyoncé.
Kenny lost out to Chris Stapleton, which is nothing to feel bad about. Something to feel good about is beating him and everyone else on that list to the Sphere.
And once there getting to sing a trio of songs with Kelsea Ballerini.
Together the pair sang "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy," Kelsea's "half of my hometown," and the Deana Carter cover "You and Tequila."

And because he wanted to really make the night special, Chesney live debuted two tunes: "One Lonely Island" and "Seven Days."
Dusting off a song he'd only played once, ever, Chesney performed the title track of the 2013 album, Welcome to The Fishbowl. One can only assume that with a title like that it would impossible not to dive in on the trippy visuals to take full advantage of the Sphere.
Right before opening night, Chesney told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the residency has, "given us an opportunity to play some songs that we’ve never done live. It’s allowed us — because my band is so good, so tight and such a force of their own — to really get inside some of the songs we’ve played for years and think about them differently. The arrangements might not be different, but how we interpret them is."
He also said this unique venue has also altered which songs he will choose to play.
"We have a pretty rocking show, a lot of momentum right out of the gate when we’re in stadiums," he said. "I wanted to have that kind of collective energy, but I know the intensity will be so much greater — and that’s a different way to build a set.”
Chesney’s remaining Sphere Las Vegas residency dates are May 28, May 30, May 31, June 4, June 6, June 7, June 11, June 13, June 14, June 18, June 20, and June 21, 2025.
