It may be called the ‘I Can’t Hear You Tour,” but Pierce the Veil fans were louder than ever this week in Charlotte, NC! As the post-hardcore heroes kicked off their biggest tour yet, fans soaked in a nostalgic 20-song setlist consisting of new singles, old classics and TikTok-famous hits with a modern twist.
From the moment this Pierce the Veil tour was announced, they clearly stated that it would celebrate their full two-decade discography. And the Charlotte show certainly didn’t disappoint. Inspired by Taylor Swift’s iconic Eras tour, this show was both a trip down memory lane (or rather, the sweltering Warped Tour pavement) and a nod to their musical maturity of recent years.
They began the set with a mixed bag of their favorite songs — with an old favorite, “Bulls in the Bronx,” sandwiched between two new numbers from their 2023 album, The Jaws of Life. AKA, the comeback record that symbolized their return from a seven-year hiatus and launched Pierce the Veil into the most prolific phase of their career. That being said, it was the throwback tracks that drew some of the greatest applause from the crowd.
Several songs made a grand comeback — with Pierce the Veil playing “I’d Rather Die Than Be Famous” again after 16 years, plus “Yeah Boy and Doll Face” and “Today I Saw the Whole World” for the first time since 2017. Add in an acoustic version of the bonus track, “Kissing in Cars,” and 2000s essentials like “Caraphernelia,” “Bulletproof Love,” and “Hell Above,” and it’s safe to say the entire ‘elder emo’ crowd was wiping away their eyeliner-stained tears.
Of course, we can’t forget more recent crowd pleasers like “Emergency Contact” and “Pass the Nirvana,” which fans waited patiently for after nearly a decade. Sure, it took Pierce the Veil seven years to release a follow-up to 2016’s Misadventures, but it was more than worth it! They’ve been on a roll since their 2023 comeback — opening for Blink 182 on their stadium tour and performing countless music festivals before embarking on one of their biggest treks yet.
Speaking of which, Pierce the Veil paid tribute to every era with their 3-song encore…first diving back well over a decade with “Disasterology” and “Hold On Till May.” As for the last song? Hardcore fans of the bands can probably guess…it was “King For A Day,” their (arguably) most famous song that recently topped the Billboard charts after going viral on Tiktok… a full decade after its release!
Kellin Quinn from Sleeping with Sirens, who provided guest vocals on the track back in 2012, came onstage for a dynamic duet that will play in the hearts of scene kids for years. How can one forget such an epic moment? The good news is that it will be far from the last time they perform together…as Pierce the Veil still has plenty more shows coming up in 2025.
