Tate McRae Live Debuts Five "Miss Possessive" Tracks in Lisbon

Platinum-selling Canadian pop phenom Tate McRae shifted into a new gear on her Miss Possessive Tour at the MEO Arena on Wednesday (5/7), doling out 13 tracks from her third studio album, So Close to What, including several live debuts.

The sold-out show's 21-song set allowed the 21-year-old artist to showcase her talents as a songwriter, dancer, and singer.

Opening with the tour’s title track, “Miss Possessive,” McRae planted the flag from the outset: this show would spotlight her newest material while flaunting the skills she developed as a child dance prodigy.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, and trained at the School of Alberta Ballet as well as her mom’s YYC Dance Project, McRae’s choreography throughout the show easily separated her from peers who only sing, march, or slither across the stage.

As is the norm these days, the concert was divided into five short acts, each highlighting a specific vibe from her catalog.

Act II featured several live debuts, including “Like I Do” and “Purple Lace Bra” (which she performed while wearing what sure looked like a white bra).

Wardrobe aside, the tunes, the dancing, her talented background performers, and the production were warmly embraced by Portuguese fans soaking up the new material.

Embedded content is no longer available.

For Act III, McRae shifted to a more intimate B-stage setup.

There, she belted out a medley of earlier bangers, including “That Way,” “Chaotic,” and “One Day”—the viral 2017 track that launched her music career and helped land her a record deal with RCA.

Oh you know the video:

Shot the day after she wrote "one day," this YouTube video has over 41 million views and shows what a talent Tate has always been.

In her young career, she’s earned multiple platinum certifications—including 5× Platinum for “You Broke Me First,” the breakout single from her 2020 EP Too Young to Be Sad.

Spotify confirms the EP, her second, has been streamed over a billion times.
McRae also has a 4× Platinum certification for “Greedy,” and Platinum status for her album Think Later, along with Gold records for “Feel Like Shit,” “Rubberband,” “Uh Oh,” “Chaotic,” and “It’s OK I’m OK.”

If she seems young now, keep in mind that at just 13 she became the first Canadian finalist on So You Think You Can Dance, finishing third in 2016.

By 2021, she’d earned a spot on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list as the youngest musician included that year. Continuing that momentum, So Close to What debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 earlier this year.

Feeling FOMO over the five live debuts Lisbon fans got to hear? Don’t worry. Three songs from the standard edition of the album still haven’t had their moment in the sun: “Signs,” “I Know Love” (featuring The Kid LAROI), and “Means I Care.”

Hang in there—she’s mixing things up.

Before the Lisbon gig, Tate launched the Miss Possessive Tour, her first arena tour, two months ago in Mexico City. She barnstormed through several Latin American cities, including Buenos Aires, Santiago, Bogotá, and São Paulo, before making it to Europe.

In addition to her headlining shows south of the border, McRae delighted crowds at major festivals such as Lollapalooza Argentina, Chile, and Brazil last March.

She also held a special 16-song Lollapalooza "side show" at Teatro Coliseo in Santiago, offering her dearest fans an intimate experience outside the typical festival hoo-ha.

So what's next for Tate? Oh, the fun has just begun. She continues her European leg with two nights at London’s O2 Arena before heading to Canada in August, then crisscrossing the U.S. for major dates including Madison Square Garden, LA’s Kia Forum, and many more.
