Marquee Memories: Ava Max

Dance-pop artist Ava Max has had quite an exciting year. Her hot single "Sweet But Psycho" recently hit the Top 10 in the Hot 100 charts, and she's gearing up for some summer gigs to bring it all to life.
In anticipation of concert season, Ava Max stopped by Setlist.Fm to share her favorite concert ever (Beyoncé of course,) an incredible radio show experience, and more! Check her out in our all new episode of Marquee Memories right here:
Marquee Memories: Ava Max Reminisces Seeing Beyoncé Live
Beyoncé
"I saw Beyoncé live in concert for the first time about seven years ago, I would say. Just her dancing and singing ability on stage and energy that she brought on stage was just very different than anything I've ever seen. It was one of the best moments of my life because when I watched her sing and dance the way she did, it was pretty remarkable how amazing she is as a performer. She kinda changed my outlook on performances forever. Her hair, her hairography was really cool. It was like its own thing. 'Survivor' was my favorite song back in the day, which is Destiny's Child, and it was just such a motivating song. 'Say My Name,' of course. I feel like all of their songs were so female-empowering."
An Incredible Radio Show:
"So this show was actually a show I did. It was a radio show in Columbus, Ohio. And it was really fun actually, because I got to dance with my dancers for the first time and actually make it feel like a real show. They knew every lyric, they were screaming at the top of their lungs every song, and it just blew my mind. I love my dancers. We're like sisters, 'cause we spend so much time rehearsing together. We have a lot of fun. I have a choreographer named Eden and every time we go in to do new choreography, she just blows it out of the park. She's so good. Definitely excited to do more radio shows this summer, and it's gonna help me prepare for my headlining show."
The Impact of "So Am I":
"'So Am I' is one of my favorite songs that I've released so far, because of the positive message it has. When I was younger, I was being bullied. For whatever reason, they wanted to bully me, they just kept bullying me. And I stood up to my bully, and then I got expelled from my school. I felt very different at that time. And after that, it just kept getting crazier and crazier 'cause I was just chasing this one dream. And I did feel very different. The music video was actually in a Malibu high school where they shot Teen Wolf. A lot of the young generation will know this. I'm super happy about just how this message is helping people in certain situations of maybe feeling uncomfortable in their own skin, and this is really just about embracing who you are and where you come from, and loving how unique you are."
