Gov Ball 2025: Olivia Rodrigo Brings Out David Byrne

Olivia Rodrigo's list of guest stars just got another member of the Rock Hall of Fame.
Talking Head frontman David Byrne joined Rodrigo Saturday (6/7) at the 15th anniversary of the Gov Ball.
Together the pair sang the Heads' biggest hit, "Burning Down the House," the only single the NYC quartet ever saw reach the Top 10.
Strumming an acoustic guitar and singing into a hands-free wireless mic, the 73-year-old Byrne - who has collabed with other stars like St. Vincent and Arcade Fire - duetted with the 22-year-old pop star.
Byrne put down the guitar after a while and in red overalls danced around the stage in the most adorably wholesome fun way next to Rodrigo, also in red, but scantily so.
Other than David, Olivia has now performed on stage with Lily Allen, Sheryl Crow, Tyler Childers, Chappell Roan, Conan Gray, Natalie Imbruglia, Jewel, Noah Kahan, Avril Lavigne, and Alanis Morissette.
Not bad for someone who has only been performing live for five years and has just a little more than 150 shows under her belt.
Olivia will be taking the Guts World Tour though Bonnaroo next. Grab your tickets from her website.

Conan Gray live debuted "This Song"

Is there a better time to introduce a gay anthem, then during Pride Month?
Just 11 days ago Conan Gray uploaded the video of "This Song," the lead single from his forthcoming album Wishbone, onto his YouTube page and it's already racked up over 2.1 million views.

And what a coincidence that his first stop on his spring/summer tour happened to be on a bill with his friend, Olivia Rodrigo, who last year he gushed over in a cute interview.
“She’s just so wonderful. Truly one of the best people I’ve ever met,” he told Junkee. “To watch her work and her career just grow and grow and grow is so fun and magical,”
Conan will be at Redding and Leeds in August. In September he kicks off his own tour with two dates in Ohio. Grab your tickets from his website.

Gov Ball helped fans find their lost phones

Perhaps this has appeared at other festivals, but something very cool they promoted at the Gov Ball was a lock screen they encouraged attendees to download and add to the home screens of their phones.
Once registered, concertgoers could leave alternative ways for people to reach them if they had lost their precious phone, all thanks to a QR code that would illuminate on their lock screen.
Genius idea that hopefully will spread.

Marina dodged the Rain

As it happens from time to time to outdoor festivals, sometimes Mother Nature wants to join the pit. Such was the case on Saturday when organizers delayed entry onto the grounds due to rain.
Fans lined up for hours waiting to be let in and when the gates finally opened Marina (formerly Marina and the Diamonds) was allowed to get on the stage to play an abbreviated set that included four cuts from her new album Princess of Power.
Those who were able to make it through the entryway and to the main stage were blown away by the singer's style and set.
Some who are unaware of Marina, might have heard one of her songs indirectly when Sabrina Carpenter covered "Heartbreaker" early in her career.
Marina next heads to Bonnaroo where hopefully the weather plays nicer. Then she goes to Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits.

Gov Ball Festival Flashback: Sabrina Carpenter 2024

Speaking of Sabrina, last year at this time she continued to skyrocket in popularity when she busted out one of her best "Nonsense" verses.
Do I text him back, that's such a tough call / That won't fit inside me bro I'm dumb small / People who hate Pride can suck my Gov Balls.
It's also where she live debuted "Please Please Please." Even the cool kids at Coachella didn't get that.
Sabrina will be in Hyde Park for two nights in July. Then she comes back to the states for gigs at Lollapalooza and ACL. Get tix on her website.
