Proving that size doesn't always matter, Bonnaroo was cancelled after just one day, due to what amounted to just an inch of rain. Sadly that inch created muddy conditions and was accompanied by lightning that organizers deemed unsafe.
Luke Combs' set on opening night made him not just the only headliner to get to play, but in doing so he became the first Country artist to headline Bonnaroo.
Combs had quite the night Thursday (6/12) in Manchester, Tennessee. Not only did he get to share the stage with Miranda Lambert as a surprise, but he was presented with a Diamond Award for "She Got The Best Of Me."

"Honored to have gotten the opportunity to headline Bonnaroo last night and I’ll never forget it. Thank y’all for having us. Hope everyone had as much fun as I did," he wrote on his IG.
"Also can’t believe a song I wrote while I was still in college before moving to Nashville is now diamond. Y’all are something else. Thank you!!"

Six songs into the set Luke had Miranda come out to do pair of duets.
First they took on "Outrunnin' Your Memory" from his 2022 Growin' Up album. Combs has played two cuts from that LP over 100 times, but "Outrunnin'..." he's performed just over a dozen times. It would be interesting to know if Miranda suggested it as he hadn't sung it live in two years.
Then they did one of her most-performed tunes, "Kerosene" which she's played over 400 times.
You may have seen her do it just last month at the Academy of Country Music Awards. There she duetted with Ella Langley. And it really is a different vibe when it's two women belting it out.
Miranda is the most awarded artist in ACM history, with 38 wins out of 75 nominations. Luke has a way to go to catch up to her with 5 wins over 40 noms. So maybe he wanted to steal some of her good mojo.
Later in the show Combs brought out another guest: genre-blurring singer, rapper, and producer, Jon Bellion, who has written and produced hits household names like Justin Bieber (“Holy,” “Ghost”), Maroon 5 (“Memories”), Jonas Brothers (“Waffle House”), Eminem and Rihanna (“The Monster”), Camila Cabello (“Shameless”), Halsey (“Graveyard”), Selena Gomez (“Vulnerable”), and Miley Cyrus (“Prisoner”).
One of Jon's latest bangers is "Why," a duet with Combs, which is on Bellion’s latest studio album, Father Figure which dropped on 6/6.
Their music video for "Why" has only been up for three weeks yet already has a million views.
Did Luke cover Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car"? Is the Pope American?
All told Combs covered five tunes in his 22-track set, including what has become a staple in his set, the Brooks & Dunn hit, "Brand New Man."
Luke is giving himself a little break during this summer and fall. Nothing more in June. Just two festival appearances in July. One gig in August. A big show at the Royal Albert Hall in September. Then four concerts in October.
Tickets available on Luke's website.
