Since Springsteen on Broadway launched in October 2017, Bruce Springsteen has wrapped every show with a performance of “Born To Run.” But for his legendary 155th show, after his performance of "Born To Run," he came back out for the first encore the show has ever seen. Springsteen told the crowd:

“You’re a beautiful audience...You’re so good, you get the first encore ever…Feel free to take a picture.”

“This Hard Land,” was that chosen encore song. The track was first recorded in his 1983 Born in the USA sessions but didn't make it to the stage till nearly a decade after. Springsteen didn't officially release “This Hard Land” until 1995 on his Greatest Hits LP but after that, the song became an easy fan favorite and a semi-regular part of his setlists. What also made this encore special was Springsteen allowing the crowd to document his performance, which has been prohibited at all other shows. Watch fan-footage of this performance below:

The decision to add this special encore performance to his usually tightly-scripted setlist came from Springsteen's wife Patti Scialfa, who was unable to perform their usual duet “Tougher From the Rest” and “Brilliant Disguise.” Bruce even told the crow: “This is from Patti ’cause she wasn’t here tonight.” Check out the full setlist from his 155th Springsteen on Broadway show below:

In March, Springsteen announced that for the third time he would be extending his Tony Award-winning Broadway run. Springsteen on Broadway will be continuing until December 15, with now 77 more shows to go, unless of course, we get another extension. Since the demand for these tickets is so high, each show has a digital lottery that is only fans who previously registered, and have not yet purchased tickets.
