Elvis Costello & The Imposters and Blondie have teamed up for an epic US tour this summer, which kicked off on July 20th in Bethel, New York. On the first night, both artists played many of their early hits that made them hugely impactful in the British new wave scene. However, they both also performed songs from their latest albums, Blondie’s Pollinator (2017) and Elvis Costello & The Imposters’ Look Now (2018).
Costello opened his set with “Pump It Up,” followed by other early hits such as “Clubland” and “Accidents Will Happen.” The first track that Costello performed from Look Now was “Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter”; later in the show, he also played “Photographs Can Lie” and “Unwanted Number.”
He closed with “Everyday I Write the Book,” before returning to the stage for an encore of “Radio, Radio” and “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding.”
Blondie kicked off her 15 song set with the classic “Call Me” and “One Way or Another,” then “Doom or Destiny” from her latest release, Pollinator. During her set, she played three other songs from the album—“Too much,” “Fun,” and “Long Time.” Of course, she also included old hits such as “Maria” and “Rapture.”
However, Blondie’s set had some surprises too! She played “Rifle Range” for the first time since 2006, and the most unexpected moment of the night came when the icon covered the song of 2019, Lil Nas X’s ubiquitous “Old Town Road.”
