This day in 2003: Metallica Kicked Off 1st Tour w/Robert Trujillo

On this day in 2003, Metallica kicked off their first tour with bassist Robert Trujillo. Trujillo had previously been in Suicidal Tendencies and was a member of Ozzy Osbourne's band before joining Metallica on February 24, 2003, two years after Jason Newsted departed from the group.

The Pontiac, Michigan performance was a rehearsal private show for contest winners and fanclub members. The 16-song set, which took place at Pontiac Silverdome, kicked off with "Battery" from the band's third studio album Master of Puppets. The setlist included the title track from the record, as well as "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)." "Harvester of Sorrow" and "Blackened" from ...And Justice for All landed in the performance. The setlist featured two encores including "Ride the Lightning," "Nothing Else Matters," "Creeping Death," "One" and "Enter Sandman." Check out the full setlist from the performance below:
