We’re in the final months of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, and I’m here to bring you more updates from her European trek. Fans who were lucky enough to get tickets to her U.S. shows saw a different set list than those who attended European shows, since the artist released her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, mid-tour and added it as an official TS Era.
During her nearly four-hour set, Swift performs a two-song acoustic arc of “surprise songs” that change nightly. We’ve seen the artist debut several new songs from TTPD that aren’t included in the official era, as well as deep-cuts and the occasional cover.
Since our last update, the star has performed shows in Liverpool, London, and Dublin. Without further ado, let’s get into the specialness at these shows:
Liverpool:
- “This Is What You Came For” tour debut / “gold rush”
- “The Manuscript” live debut
- “no body, no crime” with elements (and a live debut) of “Carolina”
Wales:
- “I Hate It Here” live debut / “the lakes”
London:
- “The Black Dog” live debut
- “thanK you aIMee” live debut with elements of “Mean”
- “Castles Crumbling” performed with Hayley Williams
- “us.” by Gracie Abrams feat. Taylor Swift live debut performed with Gracie Abrams
- "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" Travis Kelce appearance
Dublin:
- “State of Grace” / “You’re On Your Own Kid” first time played on the guitar
- “Sweet Nothing” / “hoax” live debut
- “The Albatross” live debut
- “Clara Bow” live debut
If you’re wondering where to find a few of these songs in Taylor’s discography, “Carolina” is Taylor’s track from Where The Crawdads Sing and “This Is What You Came For” is actually the 2016 Calvin Harris hit featuring Rihanna. Swift originally wrote on this song under the pseudonym “Nils Sjöberg” before later changing the credit to her own name. She’s only performed TIWYCF once before at the 2016 Formula One Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. For the Eras Tour debut, she wove the EDM song into an acoustic version of evermore’s “gold rush.”
In perhaps the biggest Eras Tour surprise yet, Taylor’s beau Travis Kelce made his own tour debut during the intro of “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" on London Night 3. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback leapt on stage in full tux-and-top-hat, carrying and fanning his girlfriend as a part of the number’s theatrics.
Gracie Abrams, who is set to open for the Eras Tour Canada shows, released her album The Secret of Us last month, including the song “us.” which features Swift. In London, Abrams joined Taylor on stage for a live debut of the song. Hayley Williams, lead vocalist of Paramore (the current Eras Tour opener), also surprised fans by joining Swift for a performance of “Castles Crumbling” on Night 2 in London.
Taylor also gave a shoutout to her London audience during the live debut of “thanK you aIMee,” which included elements of “Mean” and a lyric change to “singing this song at Wembley,” where the shows were held.
Altogether, Taylor has debuted 27 songs from TTPD with 46 shows left. Will she get through the whole TTPD: The Anthology track list before the tour ends in December? Only time will tell.
