Missy Elliott Kicks Off First Headlining Tour Ever in Canada

Missy Elliott just kicked off her first headlining tour of her career. How is that even possible?

Accompanied by her longtime co-stars Busta Rhymes, Ciara and special guest Timbaland, the 4x Grammy-winner who has moved more than 30 million units, who got people singing along with her in reverse, has never really loved to perform live it seems.

That's all changing with the Out Of This World Tour — The Missy Elliott Experience.

Since she's been in the industry for 30 years, she only started going on tours in '97, but even then she would only make extremely brief appearances.

She first shared the stage on the Ladies First Tour with Beyoncé and Alicia Keys, supporting her smash hits "Get Ur Freak On" and "The Rain."

Missy followed that up with 10 appearances at the 1998 Lilith Fair where she brought a little soul to the mix of Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Indigo Girls, and Tracy Bonham.

But look at the scoreboard: she clearly isn't crazy about bringing the rain live.

Part of the reason she says she didn't like to leave home much is because she liked to take care of her terrier, Hoodie, and would stress out if she was far from him.

Sadly, at 17 years-old Hoodie passed away and, in a way, it freed Missy to hit the road. But still she wasn't sure until Ciara convinced her to share her music with the fans.

Just because Hoodie has made it to the Great VIP Section in the sky doesn't mean Missy will be going on the road alone. A few years ago she acquired another fur baby, she named Miss Fendi Dior.

Maybe you've seen her on Missy's Twitter.

"I know people sometimes be like, 'Why y'all dressing those dogs?'... But she likes clothes," Elliott told People a few days ago. "She really [does] like clothes. She [sees] me pulling out the outfit [and] she's running. She knows that means."

But does Ms Fendi know what ti esrever dna ti pilf nwod gnaht ym tup means?

Here's what I want to know. Did Ciara convince Missy to begin the OOTW Tour on the Fourth of July but in a place void of all-night fireworks: Vancouver, Canada? Because that would have been genius.

The tour kicked off at the Rogers Arena where Missy delivered in a big way, doling out hits from her entire career and seven LPs.

Surrounded with exorbitantly-attired dancers, colorful video screens, and crazy lights, Elliott wrapped up the show with tunes featuring her co-stars, Busta and Ciara, along side extra-special guest Timbaland.

Did you know: Missy Elliott was named as the first female hip-hop artist inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? The called her "a true path breaker in a male-dominated genre.”

Since she rarely tours, you might want to catch the 53-year-old star now in case she waits another 30 years to hit the road.
