Setlist History: Taking Back Sunday at Vans Warped Tour 2003

Taking Back Sunday is a band that every angsty teen in high school identified with. If you were a lucky angsty teen at the right place and the right time, then you may have made it to Vans Warped Tour on August 9, 2003 at Randall's Island Park in New York. Taking Back Sunday's performance at this (officially extinct) traveling festival was one for the emo-books.
First, let's go back a little in time. In 2003, Taking Back Sunday were in their prime. They had already released their debut hit LP Tell All Your Friends, featuring the beloved track "Cute Without the 'E' (Cut from the Team)" and were in the process of making their then-forthcoming, critically acclaimed sophomore release, Where You Want to Be, on Victory Records. That day at Warped Tour, festival goers got to witness the post-hardcore band test out two tracks off that release: "A Decade Under the Influence" followed by "Set Phasers to Stun."

They also played classics off of their first release in their 8-song set like "Great Romances of the 20th Century" and "Cute Without the 'E' (Cut from the Team)." See footage of that below!

Prior to this Warped Tour, Adam Lazzara and band were just modest, unassuming young adults, not aware where their fame would take them. Here's how Lazzara described playing with TBS at the time to Billboard:
"When we play a show and there's a large number of kids that we've never met singing along, then I think we've succeeded. The record sales and everything else is great and they really impress our parents but that's not what we're impressed with."
TBS have recorded five albums since, and in 15 years they've achieved more than they could ever hope for. "A Decade Under the Influence" has been performed over 500 times now and is their 3rd most played song in total.
They're currently on the last stretch of their joint tour with fellow emo band Coheed and Cambria. TBS also just announced that they'll be playing their debut album Tell All Your Friends in full for the first time in Australia in January 2019 for UNIFY Gathering.
