Check Out Highlights for Weird Al's 2019 Strings Attached Tour!

Following what he refers to as his “most bare-bones tour ever,” Weird Al Yankovic was determined to hit the road once again to redeem his grandiose status. Quickly following up on his goal, Weird Al announced his Strings Attached Tour at the end of 2018 with a clear purpose in mind and he was not shy to vocalize that.

“I wanted to follow up my most bare-bones tour ever with my most elaborate and extravagant tour ever,” Al said in a statement. “We’re pulling out all the stops for this one.” - Weird Al Yankovic

Surprisingly enough, the Strings Attached tour is… weird. But let us reassure you, we mean that in the best way possible. Weird Al is set to give his fans exactly what they wanted to see from the famous comedian and performer, and then some. His promise of extravagance and over-the-top production has been more than fulfilled throughout the entirety of the tour thus far. From the light displays and massive video board to the supporting band and flashy costumes, Weird Al and company never fail to keep the audience entertained.

Oh and did we mention the full symphony orchestra? Yes, on top of all the other outrageous elements designed for the show, Weird Al decided to take it one step further by including a local symphony orchestra at every show. If you wanted the parody, well you got it. What normally serves as a critically acclaimed addition to any serious tour, functions as the perfect satirical vessel to highlight the pure comedy of every performance.

Yet in all seriousness, while comedy does take over much of the show’s content, it’s crucial that we highlight the music as well. With a setlist consisting of over twenty songs a night, it’s hard to overlook the importance of music composition on the Strings Attached Tour.

Prior to any appearance of Weird Al, the show begins with a four-song orchestra/band-only performance featuring John Williams and Lalo Schifrin covers of movie scores from franchises like Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible, Superman and of course, Star Wars. Could you think of a better way to start a Weird Al spectacular?

Opening with “The Raiders March,” the orchestra smoothly transitions into “Mission: Impossible,” “Superman March” and “Throne Room/End Credits” before introducing the man of the hour.

And so the real fun begins. From “I Lost on Jeopardy” and “Jurassic Park” to “Harvey the Wonder Hamster” and “Smells Like Nirvana,” Weird Al is sure to cover every hit in his long repertoire of parody songs. However, the most notable highlight of the show is arguably what happens in between each performance.

Constantly playing on the large video monitor backdrop are Weird Al’s most famous film and television references and appearances. Whether showing his reference during an episode of Friends, his guest appearance on The Simpsons, or his own category on Jeopardy (to name a few), every Weird Al on-screen feature adds yet another important layer to the entire show dynamic.

Fortunately, it doesn’t end there. In typical Weird Al fashion, the comedy legend ends each show on the tour with a Star Wars themed encore including songs like “The Saga Begins,” “Star Wars: Main Title” and “Yoda.” Of course, this encore is anything but typical. Weird Al could only end his awe-inspiring show with the help of some familiar faces…

What more could you ask from Weird Al? With Darth Vador, R2-D2, Emperor Palpatine and a large group of stormtroopers by his side, the Grammy Award winner would have to literally forget all the lyrics to disappoint his die-hard fans. And even then, they would probably still be cheering his name long after he left the stage. The show is seriously just that good.
