Outside Lands 2019 Photos + Highlights: Childish Gambino and More

Outside Lands 2019 felt new this year with unusual but welcomed warm weather, and getting to celebrate the first year weed was legal at the festival! But the varied lineup at the music festival, which is held in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park every year, is what kept festival goers on their toes all weekend.
Music fans who attended this past weekend (August 9-11) got to witness performances from budding stars like Bebe Rexha, Weyes Blood and Kacey Musgraves, to epic headlining sets like Childish Gambino's last Bay Area performance and Paul Simon teaming up with Grateful Dead's Bob Weir.

Day 1

Kicking off the weekend was some sought out sets by up and coming stars in the making like R&B musician Cautious Clay, electro hit maker Yaegi, deadhead approved cover band Grateful Shred, indie sweetheart Miya Folick, and hip hop superstars The Neighbourhood, who delivered a riveting 14-song setlist.
Headlining acts for the night included a 15-song set by twenty one pilots, which included a cover of House of Pain's "Jump Around"!

blink-182 also performed a very special 21-song nostalgic set that saw the three-piece tour debut these tracks from their vault: "Violence" and "Man Overboard." They ended the night with a double whammy of hits - "All the Small Things" and "Dammit."

Day 2

The second day saw more coveted rising artists perform to packed out crowds. Wallows, Tierra Whack, Ella Mai, and CupcakKe. Major indie acts like Hozier and Better Oblivion Community Center also crooned the Bay Area crowds.

But by the time nighttime fell, spirits were high as headliner Childish Gambino bid farewell to the Bay, stating that this would be his second to last performance and that this wasn't a concert but CHURCH! Then he proceeded to blow minds with his dynamic and explosive performance that as equipped with fireworks, a floating stage, ethereal light shows, and setlist that may as well have been crafted in heaven. There were plenty of noteworthy electronic sets as well, like Flume's 22-song set that carried some of his most celebrated remixes like SOPHIE's "Is It Cold in the Water?", Lorde's "Tennis Court," and Disclosure's "You & Me."

Day 3

Closing day was jam packed with must-see acts like Weyes Blood, Toro y Moi, Denzel Curry, Kygo, Kacey Musgraves, Bebe Rexha, and Sheck Wes.

During Anderson .Paak's headlining set he made sure to close out the 15-song performance the way he's been all year, by paying tribute to his late pal Mac Miller and covering "Dang!"

Closing out the festival was a once in a lifetime set by Paul Simon, who performed a 21 song career sprawling set. The folk-rock legend had a little help during the main set by yMusic - a sextet chamber ensemble from New York City who assisted him on songs like "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
Simon did three Simon & Garfunkel songs (the rest were solo cuts), two of which were done during the 5-song encore. He had help during "The Boxer" by his friend, Bob Weir of Grateful Dead / Dead & Company, and a true SF native.
