Lorde Live Debuts New Songs in Europe

Lorde, who wrapped her Solar Power Tour in April, has emerged this month with a number of festival appearances around Europe which have included new music.

After laying low for a few months, the 26-year-old got right back on the stage in early August with a newfound appreciation for pop and a lighter approach to her oft gloomy music.

On August 6, at the All Together Festival in Ireland, Lorde unveiled what she told the crowd was “the ‘Night Vision’ edition of the Solar Power Tour.” There on the Waterford stage she fiddled with the arrangement of "Mood Ring" by interjecting the long whole note from the intro of "400 Lux."

As if that was not mysterious enough, a few days later after her gig in Oslo, Norway, the Kiwi took to her seldomly used Instagram account to clear things up with her 10 million followers.

“No this is not the start of anything out there, just want u to know there’s a light on inside me .. show it to you soon,” she wrote beneath pictures of her swimming in a beautiful indoor(?) pool.

An interesting thing Lorde has done to open her shows, like at her recent gig at the Sziget Fest in Budapest on Monday, is she kicks off the show with her breakthrough hit, "Royals."

The move is decidedly punk rock and a bit risky because if you play the most popular song first, what's going to keep the casual fan to stick around who might have been at the festival for, say, Billie Eilish or Yung Lean?

Lorde debuted both "Silver Moon" and "Invisible Ink" at Friday's show.

On the other hand its planting the flag of independence while weeding out the quasi fans who think Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor was just a one hit wonder who became besties with Taylor Swift.

“This is my summer vacation too,” Lorde told the kids at the Sziget Fest as the sun dipped below the Hungarian horizon. “I just made a set where I got to dance the entire time.”

A pair of tunes for Lorde to dance to in her set are tentatively named "Silver Moon" and "Invisible Ink," which she live debuted Friday night at the Boardmasters Festival in England.

But according to Twitter (which is never wrong) those are just the placeholder titles.

But back to Sziget. It was there that she closed her set with "Green Light" with special guest Caroline Polachek.

Lorde plays one final August show on at the Vodafone Paredes de Coura festival in Portugal. She'll be on right after Wilco.
