Paramore Wrap North American Tour Two Dates Early

All good things must end. Sadly, some good things end before they were supposed to.

Case in point: the current Paramore tour. The band has been on the road since late May, crossing North America and hitting up festivals like Hangout Music Fest, Boston Calling and Bonnaroo. But as of late there’s been some shuffling of the schedule, specifically dates in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland and Salt Lake City were all delayed due to an unspecified illness.

While San Francisco and Seattle got their shows, unfortunately Paramore was forced to cancel the remaining two tour dates. A statement from Hayley Williams on Instagram specified that the issue is with her lungs, which were not healing as quickly as had been hoped. A full statement from the band officially confirmed that the Portland and SLC dates were canceled completely.

It’s a sad end to what was a great tour for the band. The nightly setlist would shake up here and there, but most of the attention was on the band’s latest album This Is Why which was released in February. There was representation from all of Paramore’s albums on the tour, though, and even their contribution to the original Twilight soundtrack, “Decode,” showed up on a number of dates.

While there were snippets of cover songs worked into their own hits, including “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston and “Heart of Glass” by Blondie, only two actual full covers were featured on the tour. On select dates the band performed “Baby” by HalfNoise, a side project of drummer Zac Farro, and “Crystal Clear” from Hayley Williams’ solo release Petals for Armor.

The biggest event each night may have been the performance of one of the band’s biggest hits, “Misery Business.” Most nights included a fan or two being invited on stage to perform the song’s bridge, and some of the fans were better known than others. Lil Uzi Vert, Congressman Maxwell Frost, Louise from Bloc Party, Rico Nasty and basketball star Stephen Curry all did the honors at select tour dates.

Oh, and Billie Eilish jumped on stage to perform “All I Wanted” with the band at the Kia Forum. No big deal.

While we’re sad to say “goodbye” to Paramore a few days earlier, we wish Hayley the best as she recovers! Hopefully she’s good to go by the time the band is set to play Australia and New Zealand in October. After that, it’s opening for Taylor Swift on the European leg of her hit Eras tour.
