Future and Metro Boomin kicked off their We Trust You Tour in Kansas City with an onslaught of cuts, including 42 tracks by Future.
The rapper even played his two newest hits multiple times, as it seems to be trendy these days.
Not surprisingly, none of the tunes from the Future / Drake mixtape What A Time To Be Alive (which MB produced) made it into the long set, but Metro did sneak Drizzy's "Knife Talk" into his DJ set early in the show.
This was a shrewd decision in the wake of the Kendrick / Drake feud where American audiences, seemingly even those in the midwest, have no interest in hearing from the Champaign Papi in the Summer of '24.
A lot has happened since Future and Metro Boomin shared the stage in Inglewood on St. Paddy's Day when they did four tunes from the 2015 collab that debuted on the top of of the Billboard Chart led by "Digital Dash."
That banger, as you may recall begins with the line, "Metro Boomin wants some more."
Looks like he's had enough of Aubrey.
Besides the 6 God and Future Hendrix, Metro has worked with Young Thug, the Weeknd, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, Gunna and many others. He'll be ok.
At Kansas City's T-Mobile Center, Future did many of the crowd favorites from his storied career, including those off DS2. But this tour was to celebrate the new LP with MB, We Don't Trust You. They reeled off 11 tracks from the 17-song record the pair released in March.
Three singles within a week, the top two being "Like That" and "Type Shit."
"Type Shit" which features Travis Scott and Playboi Carti was the lead single of the album, and wasn't the runaway success of "Like That" didn't do too shabby. It was #2 on the Billboard Hot 200 when "Like That" was on top.
Future and Metro played it four times in a row in Kansas City
"Like That" centered around a nice, long verse with Kendrick and became Future's third and Metro's first #1 track. As it topped Billboard's Hot 100, US Pop Airplay and US Rhythmic charts.
It also went #1 in the UK, Greece, Canada, Australia, and Billboard's Global 200 chart. So they played it three times in a row in KC.
"Type Shit" which had features by Travis Scott and Playboi Carti was the lead single of the album, and wasn't the runaway success of "Like That" but is the show closer,
"GTA," "Luv Bad Bitches," "We Still Don't Trust You," and the second single from the album, "Young Metro" all got their live debuts at the gig.
The trend of playing songs repeatedly in a set may not have started in 2024, but it sure is having its moment.
Travis Scott played "Fein" ten times in Orlando at the beginning of the year. And Kendrick performed "Not Like Us" one two three four five times on Juneteenth to spike the football at the Forum.
Let's have more of this.
Future and Metro Boomin have gigs lined up nearly every day in August in all the major cities in North America.
After their LA show they take a few days off and then bring the show up the coast, ending it all in Vancouver BC Canada where hopefully they'll meet up with Nardwuar.
