Chappell Roan Headlines Scandinavian Fests with #1 Streaming Song

The Midwest princess packed them in at a pair of festivals in countries that have European princesses.

First on Wednesday (8/6) in Oslo, Norway (home of Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 21, daughter of Prince Haakon and second in line to the throne. And also the Prince's sister, Princess Märtha Louise), Chappell headlined the Øya 2025 Festival.

Other big names at the four-day festival, locally called Øyafestivalen, included Charli XCX and Queens of the Stone Age.

Then yesterday (8/7), she took her Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things Tour south to Denmark (home of Princess Isabella, 17, and Princess Josephine, 14, the daughters of King Frederik X) where she strutted her stuff at the Syd for Solen Festival in Copenhagen.

The three-day fest also gave the kids sets from Bikini Kill, Sam Fender, and Queens of the Stone Age (who knew they liked royalty so much in Scandinavia).

Outside of the wildly creative costumes and makeup that adorned her, Chappell was able to make a milestone in Oslo that one hopes the fans up there appreciated.

Despite having performed "The Subway" two dozen times, when she belted it out at Øya, it was the first time she was able to do it as an official part of her catalogue instead of just an unreleased track.

In case you missed the bus, "The Subway" officially dropped as a single on July 31, to rave reviews, including from Bazaar who called it "The Heartbreak Anthem of the Summer."

The video, which also came out a week ago, already has over 6.5 million views on YouTube. "It's kinda good," she told the fans.

Meanwhile on Spotify, the single skyrocketed to the #1 slot on their global chart, where it quickly became the most streamed debut by a female artist so far this year.

So yeah, that's something to get excited about. Especially after delaying its release because she said she wasn't ready for it to drop earlier because it was "too painful" for her to deal with at the time.

Another reason we love this woman. So emotional. But was she a little too excited?

“Hello, my name is Chappell Roan. Are you ready to get naked Øya?" she asked the enthusiastic crowd earlier in the day.

"OK, prove it!” she demanded playfully before kicking into "Naked in Manhattan."

Perhaps because there may have been other princesses in the pit, the Norweigns kept it together, but screamed like nuts over the Grammy-winner's first trip to their country.

Both nights Chappell performed 17 tunes, 13 from Midwest Princess and one explosive cover: Heart's "Barracuda."

This is a fantastic time in Chappell's career to see her because while she has so many great songs off her debut LP, and more she keeps releasing from "The Subway" to the country-tinged "The Giver," now that she's headlining and fans expect a longer show, it's great she's forced to toss in a cover or two.

And if you can project to the back of the crowd like Ann Wilson on a fiery feminist rocker like "Barracuda," heck, go full steam ahead.

Embedded content is no longer available.

"Casual" following generous band intros.

It's so good she really should include it in her next album.

About that... “The second project doesn’t exist yet,” she broke hearts when she talked with Vogue recently.

“There is no album. There is no collection of songs.”

Gonna ignore that right now and manifest that while she's making her way around Europe this month - there are more than a dozen dates on her dance card - she will get some great ideas, work them out on the bus with her incredible band and by the time she gets back to the States for some of her NY and LA residencies, she might be surprised herself as to what the fates brought her way.

Tickets on sale (if you're lucky) on Chappell's website.
