Last month, Lionel Richie got dizzy in the middle of a concert and was forced to sit down, and was eventually taken to the hospital. He said friends started calling him out of concern while he recuperated.
“When you turn 80, things happen differently,” he said his friends told him, to which the multi-platinum star replied, “I’m not 80!”
Indeed, the singer-songwriter just turned 77 in June. But there are probably more artists than you think who are on tour this summer who are older than the former Commodores frontman.
Bob Dylan, 85
The voice of a generation remains the most relentlessly active octogenarian in popular music. On Tuesday, he played Forest Hills Stadium, 61 years after his first visit there in 1965.
And look, he's got two new guitarists, Julian Lage and Joel Paterson. Lage, best known in jazz circles, replaced Doug Lancio in June. Chicago-based roots and blues guitarist Paterson joined after Bob Britt split.

John Fogerty, 81
The great John Fogerty’s CCR hits alone would fill a whole set, but add Centerfield singles and covers, and now you’ve got a night.
Fogerty’s sons, Shane Fogerty (guitar, vocals) and Tyler Fogerty (guitar, vocals), are part of his touring band. They also lead the L.A. psychedelic-rock group Hearty Har and open the 2026 Legacy Tour.
The Fogertys hit the road August 5 at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, followed by Canadian gigs in Windsor and Toronto, and many in the States afterward. Get your tix on John's website.
Mavis Staples, 87

Art Garfunkel, 84
Another great singer taking the stage with his progeny is Art Garfunkel, whose What a Wonderful World Celebration Concerts tour is making 15 stops across the U.S. and Europe.
Some of the appearances also involve his son, Art Garfunkel Jr., with whom he has been recording.

Rod Stewart, 81
A few weeks ago, when he learned his friend Bonnie Tyler had died, Rod sang a tune they’d both had success with, “It’s a Heartache.”
The tune was written by Tyler, but Stewart has had great success with it, too. At the King’s Trust, he sang it alongside Jools Holland and dedicated it to Bonnie.
