Stand Atlantic charged out of Sydney’s pop-punk scene in 2012, initially named What It’s Worth. The original group of Bonnie Fraser, Arthur Ng, David Potter and Jordan Jansons, released the Catalyst EP in 2013 before changing its name to Stand Atlantic in 2014.
The current lineup is Fraser (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Potter (lead guitar, keyboards), Miki Rich (bass) and Jonno Panichi (drums). The band has increasingly moved beyond straightforward pop-punk while blending electronic elements including alt rock and heavier elements into the newer sound.
Stand Atlantic’s first break came in 2017 when it became the first Australian act signed to Rude Records, the indie label based in Italy. They were able to release their Sidewinder EP, which includes “Coffee at Midnight" and “Mess I Made," and tour around Europe with ROAM and Australia with Knuckle Puck.
A bigger step came in September 2018 when Stand Atlantic signed with the influential American punk label Hopeless Records and simultaneously announced its debut full-length, Skinny Dipping.
So far they've released four studio LPs: Skinny Dipping in 2018, Pink Elephant in 2020, f.e.a.r. in 2022 and WAS HERE in 2024.
Pink Elephant became their first album to make a significant Australian chart impact, reaching #23 on the ARIA Albums Chart, while WAS HERE made it to #3, their first Australian Top 5 album. A deluxe edition of WAS HERE dropped last year with four bonus tracks.
Their fifth LP, GODBREATH, is scheduled to drop in a few months in late October.
Recently Bonnie and Miki stopped by the Setlist studios to chat with Bree Wilde about seeing Green Day, blink-182, Slipknot, Zara Larsson, and so much more.

Green Day, Cricket Sydney Ground, 2005
Miki: I was 12 and it was my first show ever. I just remember in hindsight it being such a crazy show because it was Green Day and then the opening act was My Chemical Romance. And then the in-between band was, the second band was Jimmy Eat World.
So even that was crazy. I feel like I was even too young to probably appreciate Jimmy Eat World back then. Obviously I knew the big songs.
Even My Chem, loved My Chem, but at that age I was probably just like, "I just want to see Green Day."
Bree Wilde: Very focused.
Miki: Yeah, very, very focused. I also remember -- this is such a random fact that just came to my head, but I remember My Chem, the singer, Gerard was wearing a necktie and it looked exactly like my school uniform necktie.
Bonnie: Stop.
Miki: And I remember thinking, "Oh my God. "He got my school tie." It probably just kind of looked similar. But back then when you're 12, you're like, "Oh my God, my school tie."
Bonnie: It's just another blue tie.

Miki: Yeah. We were talking about, "Oh, what show are you going to do for this?" She said, "Slipknot." I was like, "2008?" I was like, "I was at that show."
Bonnie: Yeah. It was crazy.
Miki: Yeah. "This girl and this guy was just kissing right in front of me the whole time. It was probably you."
Bonnie: Please don't make me throw up. This is a nice couch, man. Yeah, Slipknot, just super memorable because of just that awkward moment. It was pretty much my first kiss, I would say.
Miki: So not romantic.
Bonnie: Yeah, I know. I just think it's really funny with the backdrop of "People = Shit" and I'm just like [kissing sounds].
Bree Wilde: That's a choice.
Bonnie: Yeah. I don't know. I just remember it being so crazy because I'd say a good 30 minutes in, I didn't realize that the dude with all the pins on his mask was actually a person. Because he was headbanging like just this the whole time. And it just looked like a machine.
Bree Wilde: You're like, "That's a robot."
Bonnie: I was like... Yeah. I'm like, "Cool. They've got this sick little Martian guy going..."
Yeah, I didn't think that was a real person. And then the drummer went upside down. I just thought it was so sick and I loved that band.
And then, yeah, my high school boyfriend, we kissed and now we're both gay. So it went pretty well.

Bree Wilde: How did you become a fan of Slipknot?
Bonnie: I don't actually know.
When I was growing up I listened to a lot of random things and I feel like I kind of found them through just going through CDs at Utopia Records, which is crazy.
I loved Eminem. Eminem and Avril Lavigne were my first two CDs. Anyways, I joined a band when I was 11 or 12 or something. And we used to always have band practice in our drummer's basement for literally two minutes. And everyone else wanted to go upstairs and play World of Warcraft.
And I was like, "man, this sucks. I thought being in a band meant you got to play together."
So I would literally be in the computer room watching them play World of Warcraft and we're just like, "Ugh."
I love games as much as the next person. And I was just sitting in the back of the room, not playing, just watching them play.
And we'd have a playlist going of music and Slipknot was on there and there was Korn. We had Metallica, System of a Down, heaps of heavy shit as well.
Yeah, I just got introduced by them and then I loved it.
