Jeff Tweedy Plays 28 Song Set, 2 Live Debuts at Drive-In Concert

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy is the most recent indie artist to join in on the drive-in concert fun. Over the weekend on September 18th him and his band took over the McHenry Outdoor Theater in McHenry, Illinois to play his first drive-in style concert.

His live band consisted of drummer Spencer Tweedy, guitarist James Elkington, bassist Liam Kazar and backing vocalists Sammy Tweedy and Sima Cunningham. They kicked off the generous 28-song setlist with Jewish Prayer “Mi Shebeirach" for Rosh Hashanah before diving into "Bombs Above."

The set not only featured two live debuts off of Tweedy's forthcoming album Love is The King, but also four Tweedy songs - the side project of Jeff and his son Spencer who was playing in the backing band.

The live debuts included "Gwendolyn" followed immediately by "Opaline." He performed several other songs off the record including "Bad Day Lately," "Guess Again," "Natural Disaster," and "Save It For Me." The new record is due out on October 23rd.

The second half of the set included a number of cover songs, including Neil Young's "The Old Country Waltz" for the first time. The set ended on "Save It For Me." The only Wilco song they performed was their Billy Bragg collaboration "California Stars."
