The adorable, low-key, indie darling Clairo kicked off her five night residency at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, California, with a bunch of songs from her latest album, fan favorites, and big time guests in the balcony.
Clairo's new wax is the delightful Crush, which she live debuted at the Mercury Lounge in NYC in July, but is currently hitting the road to share those tunes with her fans.
Fans, who apparently include Billie Eilish, Reneé Rapp, Remi Wolf, and Towa Bird, who were all seen tucked away in the balcony of the Hollywood Blvd. venue.
Once she finishes her residency in Los Angeles, she jets back across the country to the east coast to perform five nights at Webster Hall.
“I love going to these venues because they are close and sweaty and intimate and fun and loud,” she told Vanity Fair last week. “I just want to see people having a really good time in one of these rooms. I’ve had nothing but good times there.”
Known for her understated "bedroom pop," when performed live, there is a bit more funk from the bass and jazz from the rest of the band.
Also at the first Fonda shows, Claire seemed way into it.
What's not to be giddy about? Charm is her third album and first one she self released. She co-wrote and co-produced the 11 songs with multi-instrumentalist Leon Michels who is a founding member of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and tours with the Black Keys.
The album dropped in July and entered the album chart at #8, her highest position ever. Who needs a record label?
Her fans are incredibly loyal and waited for hours in the scorching Los Angeles heat to get close to singer in the GA floor section of the theater.
Many of these fans have been listening to her since her diary 001 EP which contained the viral hit "Pretty Girl" - a tune she hasn't performed since October 2022.
Why play a song that has gotten 105 million views on YouTube? Especially when she has another one with 106 million views, "Sofia," from her debut LP, Immunity.
But she hasn't played that one since that fateful October in London either.
New leaf. Good for her.
This is the freedom of not having to answer to any label execs. Good.
She does play tunes from her earlier works.
Of the 20 songs on her setlist, all 11 from Charm were performed, three from Immunity, two from diary 001, and three from her sophomore effort Sling were heard.
And for the first time in six years she played "How," which everyone seemed very exited about.
After her two residencies, Claire heads down south to Texas then Arizona and back through California. She plays two nights at some famous venues like Seattle's Paramount and Toronto's Massey Hall. She wraps it all up at the Fox Theater in Atlanta on November 7.
