Deftones are heading back to the big stage in 2025! The alt-metal favorites have announced their first headlining tour since 2022, a 24-date expedition set to kick off early next year. Joined by The Mars Volta and Fleshwater, they’ll begin on February 25th in Portland, OR, and continue through April 8th in Boston, MA.
Don’t get us wrong, Deftones never truly went anywhere. They’ve had a very busy year headlining festivals like Coachella, Primavera Sound, and Lollapalooza. The Sacramento band even joined System of a Down for a massive show in San Francisco with a crowd of 50,000+. That being said, fans have waited patiently for another headlining tour that highlights Deftones’ 36-year-discography for the masterpiece it is. And it’s finally coming in 2025.
With their experimental and instantly-recognizable sound, the influence of Deftones is all around us. While their roots are primarily planted in metal, they’ve also been named as an inspiration by artists like The Weeknd and Chvrches! Just listen to their biggest singles like “Change,” “My Own Summer,” “Rosemary” and “Be Quiet and Drive” to understand their impact. And in the meantime, hype yourself up for a setlist that includes both classics and possible new tunes.
While it’s been a minute since the ninth and latest Deftones record, 2020’s Ohms, the band has hinted at new recordings on the horizon. “Just in the last couple of months, really — two or three months; well, maybe a little longer now, really; February is when we started … to work on new material for a new record,” guitarist Stephen Carpenter said in an interview. “It’s going good now. It was a little slow at first, but it always is; dragging our feet ain’t nothing new. But we’ve got stuff up and going now, and we’re on a good little momentum at the moment.”
While there’s no official release date for the next Deftones album, we wouldn’t put it past them to preview some new tracks on tour. Or maybe even at the fifth annual sold-out Dia De Los Deftones festival in San Diego this November! The band’s unpredictability is a part of their charm, after all, and you’ll get swept up in the Deftones movement from start to finish at these 2025 shows. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, September 20th for the following dates.
