Riot Fest always has incredible lineups, big names, and beautiful backdrops thanks to the stunning Chicago skyline that towers above it.
It also typically has surprises that somehow never were realized at any of the spring or summer fests.
So here are five that would be fantastic if they came true this weekend in the Windy City.
If All plays the shortest Descendents song of all
The title track of the Descendents' last album before Milo went to grad school is called "All."
It's one note, one second, and some say it's the best song the band ever recorded.
That's debatable, but it's clearly the shortest.
According to our records, The Descendents last played it two years ago, but All hasn't rocked it in 22 years.
Granted All does not play alot of shows, but IT'S ONE NOTE, FELLAS. Give the kids what they need.
If Suicidal Tendencies plays "Institutionalized"
What's a little nuts about Suicidal Tendencies is they don't play one of their best songs, "Institutionalized" as much as you think.
Despite being the only single that came off their self-titled debut -- and a banger at that -- it barely makes their top 10 most-performed songs.
How can this be?
Did Mike get the Pepsi he wanted so much?
If they feel weird doing a tune co-written by original bassist Louichi Mayorga, who parted ways with the group years ago, hire him back.
But play the song for the Chicago crowd.
If St. Vincent covered "Black" with a special guest
Way back in 2012 during a Portlandia special event, St. Vincent covered Pearl Jam's "Black," and then never touched the song again.
As you may remember, Pearl Jam was at Chicago's Wrigley Field just a few weeks ago and now they're on a short break before they do a pair of shows in Orange County at the end of the month (tickets available here).
Even if Eddie Vedder doesn't pop out to Riot Fest and do "Black" with Anne (which he totally should), she should bust out with that tune. She does it beautifully, and if she really wanted to she could break out a splintering guitar solo like only she can, to remind people how she can shred.
If Rob Zombie dusted off "Great American Nightmare"
A decade ago Rob Zombie last played the theme song for the Howard Stern Show live.
It's a song that is broadcast to millions over 100 times a year as the King of All Radio kicks off his show. Despite being heard for over 27 years on the most successful radio show in history, Rob has only performed it live in concert (not counting on appearances on the Stern show) four times.
Is it hard to play without John5 on guitar?
Does Rob not think Howard would mention it on the air if he performed it on such a cool stage as Riot Fest?
Does Howard need to be asked if he would make a guest appearance as Rob dusts it off? It needs to be played. It should be played. Howard would definitely talk about it. And that could only be a win-win for all involved.
If Gwar played "The Salaminizer" for the first time in 2024
If our records are correct, your favorite murderous metal gods from Antartica have not performed "The Salaminizer," the opening cut from their 1990 masterpiece, Scumdogs of the Universe all year.
How can this be?
Besides being a viciously humorous semi-tribute to N.W.A's most notorious song about police, live the hard rockers make mayhem on stage.
Not that they've ever hurt for ideas, but if they dressed up a bunch of folks as Chicago White Sox members and put them in their infamous faux meat grinder for breaking the record this year for the most losses by a baseball team in major league history, it would be funny and it would rock.
