My Chemical Romance Perform Live Debut in Phoenix

As My Chemical Romance continues the “Long Live the Black Parade Tour,” the surprises have been nonstop…and they gave Phoenix fans a Conventional Weapons moment they’ve been waiting over a decade for. On September 6 at Chase Field, the band performed “The Light Behind Your Eyes” live for the first time, giving one of their most beloved deep cuts its long-awaited stage debut.

And yes, the crowd knew exactly how rare that was. The song arrived late in the set after My Chemical Romance had already worked through their iconic 2006 album in all its theatrical glory, complete with a 2026 reprise of “The End” that felt like a full-circle moment if we’ve ever seen one. It wasn’t until they stripped their marching band uniforms and took the B-stage as My Chemical Romance, instead of The Black Parade, that fans got all up in their feels over a deep cut they thought would never see the light of day. Pun intended.

“The Light Behind Your Eyes” arrived after all the mainstream favorites, and Gerard Way gave the song the spotlight it deserved. “I wrote this song for my daughter,” he told the crowd. “If there’s something I could leave for her it’d be this one.” Cue thousands of fans immediately becoming emotionally unwell, which is honestly exactly what this song (and frankly, the entire My Chemical Romance catalog) was made to do.

But that wasn’t the only Conventional Weapons moment of the night. Earlier in the B-stage run, MCR performed “Boy Division” and dedicated it to the late Andy “The Butcher” Williams, former Every Time I Die guitarist and professional wrestler. For a song already built on drama, legacy, and the band’s very specific brand of beautiful panic, the tribute made the moment even more emotional for everyone in the stadium. Let’s just say, there were even more tears shed than your typical MCR show, and that’s saying a lot.

Phoenix also got quite a few other post-Black Parade essentials, including “The Only Hope for Me Is You,” “My Way Home Is Through You,” “Thank You for the Venom,” “Na Na Na,” and “The Foundations of Decay.” Basically, once the band left the world of The Black Parade, they made sure those who were emotionally present since their Jersey basement days were fed. And if the collective singalongs of those old songs were any indication, it’s that every era of MCR is equally valuable.

Have you ever heard a stadium of elder emos sing “NA NA NA NA NA” at the top of their lungs? It’s a sight to behold, and MCR switches up the setlist and vibes in every city to ensure that we all feel heard. Want to relive the Phoenix show? Check out the full setlist here.
