System of a Down Live Debut New Tracks at Las Vegas Show

System of a Down played their first shows in over 2 years this past weekend, kicking off Friday (October 15) in Las Vegas. The band's 30-song setlist included two live debuts and several rarities.

SoaD kicked off the expansive set with Toxicity track "X" - a track that hadn't been performed since 2013. The next rarity was just three songs in - "Holy Mountains" was last included in the set in 2015 as part of their Wake Up the Souls tour. Hypnotize closing track "Soldier Side" was resurrected for the first time since 2013, a song that was only played with some regularity in 2011 (and only performed 12 times total, to date).

The real excitement came mid-set when System live debuted their newest music in 15 years. Vocalist Daron Malakian introduced the consciousness-raising song "Genocidal Humanoidz" by saying, "It's about some piece of sh*t government that tried, again, to kill our people." "Chic 'N' Stu" made the setlist for the first time since 2015, right before the second and final live debut of the evening, "Protect the Land." Serj Tankian introduced and explained this one: “The combined forces of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Syria mercenaries attacked a peaceful people living in Nagorno-Karabakh who have been living there on their indigenous land for thousands of years. Those are our people. At the time, System of a Down put out two songs to help bring attention to the cause, and what we want to do is thank you, because you helped join our effort to raise funds and bring attention to this very important event.” Check out the live video:
