Who Are Dreamcatcher?

Have you heard of Dreamcatcher, the girl group dubbed by many as "The Face of Rock" in K-Pop? Formed by Dreamcatcher Company in 2017, the band consists of seven members: JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami and Gahyeon.

While many know them as Dreamcatcher today, the group's origins started all the way back in 2015, when the label debuted five of the original members (JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon, and Dami) as 'MINX.' After promoting from July 2015 to November 2016, it was announced by their company that they would undergo a name change, add two more girls to the lineup (Handong and Gahyeon), and return with a darker concept - a rarity among other female K-Pop acts at the time.

On January 13, 2017, Dreamcatcher released Nightmare, their first single album. The lead single, "Chase Me," gained praise for the incorporation of metal elements in the song as well as their music video's unique paranormal storyline. This 'second debut' was quite successful in Korea but even more so abroad, receiving more than 16 million views on YouTube alone.

Dreamcatcher's next several releases helped them gain even more traction, with their second single album Fall Asleep in the Mirror as well as the group's first EP, Prequel, both released later that year. Prequel, featuring the title track "Fly High," went on to place fifth on the Billboard World Albums chart, highlighting their potential in the international market.

Hoping to capitalize on their new-found fanbase across the globe, Dreamcatcher would soon embark on a world tour, starting with the first leg in Japan at the BigCat Shinsaibashi Livehouse in Osaka on September 30, 2017. After one more performance in Tokyo, the girls made their way to Brazil, selling out shows in Rio, Brasília, and São Paulo. The final leg of the tour took place in Europe, consisting of concerts in the U.K., Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and France.

Seeing that the demand for the group was high, especially in the United States that had missed out on seeing them on during their first tour, Dreamcatcher joined the lineup of KCON 2018 in Los Angeles. The band's powerful performance, which included one of their newer songs "YOU AND I" as well as a special cover stage of Camila Cabello's "Havana," impressed the packed audience at the Staples Center.

Dreamcatcher soon ended up with a variety of different collaboration deals, including a partnership with the King's Raid franchise. Not only would they release a special EP, Raid of Dream for the King's Raid mobile game, but they also sang the opening theme song "Eclipse" for the anime TV adaptation of the series, "King's Raid: Successors of the Will."

Most recently, Dreamcatcher came back to the United States once again for the "Reason: Makes Dreamcatcher" tour, with stops in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., New York City, Reading, Chicago, Denver, Irving, Oakland, and Los Angeles. In addition, the group made an appearance at the inaugural WeBridge Expo 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Their latest EP, Apocalypse: From Us featuring lead single "Bon Voyage," is considered to be the group's highest-performing album yet, peaking at number one on the Worldwide iTunes Charts. Since its release, the song's music video has garnered more than 29 million views.
