The first weekend of Austin City Limits made for some core memories to all who were there and also to others who watched the stream on Hulu.

As you may have heard Chappell, Roan continued her magical ability to get record amounts of people to rush her stage despite not being a headliner.

In Austin she wasn't a headliner either. And still they came.

ACL works a lot like Coachella in that there are two weekends with identical lineups.

Here's some highlights from the first weekend.

Tyler the Creator gave love to Chappell

Leading up to ACL, Chappell cancelled her appearances at All Things Go.

"I apologize to people who have been waiting to see me in NYC & DC this weekend at All Things Go, but I am unable to perform," she wrote on her Instagram.

"Things have gotten overwhelming over the past few weeks and I am really feeling it. I feel pressures to prioritize a lot of things right now and I need a few days to prioritize my health. I want to be present when I perform and give the best shows possible. Thank you for understanding," she wrote.

In the middle of his set, Tyler gave love to the singer whose set preceded his on Sunday night.

“Shoutout Chappell. I love the dramatic. It's like theater kid shit, I love that shit. That shit's tough. Where ever you are," he said to the crowd.

Tyler knows a few things about the drama of cancelling big shows. This summer he bowed out of Lollapalooza and Outside Lands and never really explained why.

Despite hosting one of the best festivals in LA, Tyler has stayed off the stage for the most part.

Since 2019, the influential rapper has only had one year where he really went hard on tour.

Sunday's show in Austin was his first full gig since Coachella... and sadly, the last on his calendar for this year.

Sad is the word because listen to how much the fans are into him, how they sing along, anticipate each line. They are there with him.

Since he likes Chappell and since she could seemingly sell out any venue she wants right now. Maybe he could open for her, toss Lana Del Rey on the bill who is someone else who doesn't seem to like to tour, and cause a commotion.

Dua Lipa headlined on Saturday - which is rare for her in 2024.

Not so fun fact: Dua Lipa's ACL appearance was the first headlining show she had this year in the USA.

Despite promoting Radical Optimism by traveling the world, the singer has only done a handful gigs in 2024 in the States. Other than last weekend in Austin, they were all little promo events.

That drought doesn't seem to be changing any time soon. Her Radical Optimism Tour doesn't kick off until next month in Singapore and she doesn't come to the United States until September of 2025.

There is a Coachella-sized hole in her April 2025 schedule however - a scene she would thrive at.

At ACL she performed a balanced set where the majority of her songs were from 2020's Future Nostalgia. Bangers like "Don't Start Now."

Only five of her 17 songs were from this year's Radical Optimism. Expect that to change next month.

Reneé Rapp delivered a strong vocal performance and wore a meme shirt

Reneé Rapp isn't afraid of rocking the boat if you've been paying attention. The former Broadway star of Mean Girls, where she played the lovable/hatable Regina George, rocked a shirt at ACL that was a quote from Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett that went viral.

The millennial congresswoman was bickering with a distinguished gentlewoman from Georgia. The Georgian insulted the Texan's faux eyelashes. So the Texan asked the chair of the committee if it was inappropriate to refer to someone with a “bleach blond bad built butch body.”

The off-the-cuff insult was grown up Mean Girls and went viral... all the way to Renee's wardrobe.

And it was quickly forgotten once Reneé started belting out her songs. During the last of her 14 cuts, she was literally on her knees giving it all during "Snow Angel."

Her show next week at ACL will be the last for her of the year

Qveen Herby sang and rapped her way into hearts

Foul-mouthed, stylish, dramatic, colorfully costumed, and complete with a full production, the 38-year-old rapper was completely compelling during her polished set.

The Nebraska native pulled from 11 different LPs and EPs to show off her many talents, all while being a cute little chatty minx on stage.

"I started making music in my bedroom and I did not think there would be so many people who would resonate with my quirky, witchy shit," she told the cheering crowd. "I'm so grateful to y'all. Thanks for seeing me."

Blink-182 covered Taylor Swift

If blink wanted to, they could put out an excellent covers album. They don't do a lot of tunes by others but when they do it's on the money.

Perfect example is when they were wrapping up their 23-track main set with "Dammit."

Near the end of the song they broke into Tay's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,"

Even though they have done this a few times on their One Last Time Tour, hearing 52-year-old Mark Hoppus earnestly sing, "you go talk to your friends / talk to my friends / talk to me," it's almost better than the original.

Now the other guy, Tom Delong, either his voice was shredded or he was getting emotional at the end of the show. Especially during the encore of "One Last Time."

Maybe he is feeling it... that their tour is winding down. After Weekend Two, their final tour date is next month in Mexico. Tickets available on blink's website.
