Tour Highlights from My Morning Jacket's Jim James' 2018 Tour

My Morning Jacket's Jim James is in the midst of a North American tour in support of his latest solo projects, Uniform Distortion and Uniform Clarity.

The Kentucky-born indie singer-songwriter– who also goes by "Yim Yames," for some reason– released his sixth solo record, Uniform Distortion, back in June. The album, a loving tribute to classic rock, contains eleven original songs and includes singles "Throwback" and "No Secrets."

"Throwback" is a reminder of our own mortality and how getting consumed by social media takes away from so much of our lives, with haunting lyrics like:

"Who knows how much time we ever really have?/ Together in this life or on our separate paths/ We go through so many days, so many lives, so many ways/ We fall apart, we come together, so in love/ Yeah, to be loved, to be loved, loved..."

Following the release of Uniform Distortion, James released a companion piece, Uniform Clarity, which contains acoustic versions of all its sister's songs.

Kicking off November 2nd, the tour has taken James all around the country and is expected to wrap in Louisville on the 21st.

Let's check out some highlights from his career-spanning solo acoustic trek.

November 13 – The Town Hall, New York, New York

In a two hour performance, James captivated the sold-out crowd with a collection of songs spanning his career.

“I love coming back to New York,” he said towards the end of the 22-song set.

“I lived here for a while and it feels like home. New York is an example of what’s possible when we get things right.”

Kicking off the night with a solo rendition of My Morning Jacket's "I'm Amazed," James played a handful of covers and solo material from Eternally Even, Regions of Light and Sounds of God and Uniform Distortion before wrapping with a four-song encore of New Multitudes "Changing World," My Morning Jacket's "Golden," "State of the Art" and "Here in Spirit."

November 8 – Pabst Theater, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

As the polls drew to a close, rock fans flocked to the Pabst Theater for a 23-song Jim James set.

Before he took the stage, the audience was treated to a surprise performance from local poet/activist, Andrea Gibson.

Gibson performed three spoken-word pieces with topics ranging from gun control to women's rights.

James took the stage right afterwards, opening with "The World's Smiling Now" before digging into songs like "Yes to Everything," "Too Good to be True" and "Over and Over."
