Marquee Memories: Simple Plan Reflects On His Past Favorite Concerts

Green Day / BLINK-182
It was the Pop Disaster Tour with co-headliners Green Day and Blink-182 and we happened to be on that tour. We were the parking lot band. Our record had just come out but we had a friendship with Mark from Blink-182 and he invited us to be apart of the tour but really what was special about this tour, our two favorite bands of all time were playing together and we had a backstage pass to witness the whole way that the real pros did it. Was incredibly influential for us, we didn't miss one show, we literally sat in the crowd or on stage, watching those two bands every single night, learning, seeing how they did it. It was basically like going to school. I will forever hold incredible memories of these 10-15 shows that we did on that tour.

Pearl Jam
My first ever concert was seeing Pearl Jam at the Verdun Arena in Montreal, and I went with my dad because I was too young to go by myself and the coolest thing was that my dad was actually the lawyer for the city where the arena was, so he called his buddy who ran the arena and asked him if we could go in earlier, so I got to sneak in before everybody else, I got to see the soundcheck. I remember seeing absolutely mesmerized and completely thrilled to see my first rock band. It was incredibly influential for me. It basically sent me on a course to I want to be in a band- that's what I want to do for a living. I'm really happy I got to see that band.

NOFX
NOFX. I got to see them at The Spectrum in Montreal. It was me and Pierre our singer that went together. And from the moment we saw that show we're like ok now we're a punk rock band. We'r just gonna write really fast punk beats and we're going to talk about social issues. So that show completely changed everything I knew about music. The way that we conceptualize music and the way that we want our arrangement to sound, there's an influence from NOFX. It's part of our DNA, it's who we are. And what's incredible is that now in 2019, we've come full circle where we play festivals with NOFX and I had the chance to finally tell them just how much of an influence they were, on our band and on me personally, and it's kind of wild that I have his number and he's commenting on my Instagram posts and we're texting. That night changed my life.
