The Black Crowes Bring "Shake Your Money Maker" Reunion to LA

On November 11th, The Black Crowes performed their first show in six years at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City, performing Shake Your Money Maker in its entirety. Last night, November 14th, the veteran southern rockers brought the set across the country to Los Angeles' iconic Troubadour for another intimate show.

They performed the album in sequencing order, kicking it off with "Twice as Hard" and rolling through the album's gems like "Sister Luck," "Seeing Things," "Thick N' Thin" "Struttin' Blues" and their rendition of Otis Redding's "Hard to Handle."

Set opener

The main set ended on album closer "Stare it Cold," but the boys came back out to encore The Rolling Stones anthem "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)." They did not do the album's hidden tracks "Live Too Fast Blues"/"Mercy, Sweet Moan." See the full setlist below!

The Black Crowes

These shows were a precursor to their 2020 "Shake Your Money Maker" reunion tour!

“I think this is pure. We went off into a lot of things. There’s no jamming,” Chris Robinson tells Rolling Stone. “There’s no extraneous stuff. This is the purest Black Crowes that people first [heard] … I hope we reconnect with some people who lost their way with us because of all of our other shit we were doing.”

The band includes the two brothers, Chris and Rich, along with new members: "Isiah Mitchell of psych-rock band Earthless, veteran session bassist Tim LeFebvre who appeared on David Bowie’s Blackstar and keyboardist Joel Robinow and drummer Raj Ojha of prog/psych-pop group Once and Future Band."

“It’s always been our band and it’s funny through all the trajectory of the good and the bad — the joy and the frustrations,” Chris says. “[Rich and I] were laughing, saying the one thing [we] can always agree on is, Shake Your Money Maker’s a good record.”
