2022 in Review: Aaron Kelly of The Wrecks

The Wrecks may already be looking ahead to 2023, with Bamboozle and When We Were Young on the horizon, but 2022 was a big year for the band and may have had their fans seeing double. In June, they released their sophomore album, Sonder, which showcased a more refined sound, and kicked off their headlining tour, Better Than Ever. The Wrecks went on a second tour in the fall, during which they released Sonder (Deluxe) complete with new music videos.

Back in September we caught up with frontman Nick Anderson for Marquee Memories and now we had the chance to get bassist Aaron Kelly's thoughts on this past year of live music.

Setlist.fm: What was your favorite show that YOU played this year? Tell us about it.

Aaron Kelly: Webster Hall in New York City. Everything about this day was special. We were in my favorite city, and it was one of the biggest headlining shows we’ve ever done. The show was amazing, and then we had an after-party in the venue with a bunch of friends and family. It was so much fun, a night the whole band won’t forget.

Setlist.fm: What was your favorite show that you SAW this year?

AK: I got to see Michelle Branch at the Troubadour. I’ve listened to Michelle since I was really young, so being able to see her for the first time in a small venue like the Troubadour was a really fun, intimate show.

Setlist.fm: Can you share a favorite touring memory from this year?

AK: We’ve had so much fun this year I could go on forever. The last thing I can think of was last week on our off-day in New Orleans. The weather was perfect, and we went exploring all day. We ate a bunch of really good food, drank a lot of terrible alcohol and I ended up on an electric bull by the end of the night. Bourbon street is a wild time.

Setlist.fm: What do you have planned for 2023?

AK: A bunch of festivals and waiting to lock in some tours. I really wanna get to the UK! 🤞
