Who Is Bang Yedam?

Have you heard of Bang Yedam, an up-and-coming South Korean singer and producer that's been in the entertainment industry since he was five years old?

Bang Yedam seemed destined for fame since birth. After all, both of his parents were highly respected musicians in their own right - Yedam's mother used to be a singer for K-Drama soundtracks, and his father wrote more than 40 jingles for commercials and television, including the Korean theme songs for popular animated series such as Pokemon and Dragon Ball. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Yedam's first foray into music came quickly. He started out at age five by participating in the opening theme for "Bboongbboong-E," an educational show for children.

The true beginning of Yedam's journey would begin several years later, when he auditioned for the second season of the hit reality series "K-Pop Star" airing on SBS. Yedam received high praise from industry professionals such as Park Jinyoung (founder of JYP Entertainment), Yang Hyun-suk (founder of YG Entertainment) and popular singer BoA, who compared him to a "young Michael Jackson." He went on to make it extremely far in the competition, ending in second place during the finale. While a record deal was only guaranteed to the winner of the show, Yang Hyun-suk saw a lot of potential in the young boy and decided to offer him a trainee contract at YG.

Over the course of the next several years, Yedam would make brief cameo appearances on a few variety shows before finally being selected to participate in a brand new reality show: "YG Treasure Box." For the duration of the program, 29 trainees competed against each other for the chance to join the company's new boy group. At the very end, Yedam was crowned first place among the vocal team and became a member of TREASURE.

Immediately, TREASURE became a huge success both domestically and internationally, with their first physical album The First Step: Chapter One selling more than 200,000 copies in South Korea alone. The album's lead single, "Boy," even landed in seventh place on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales Chart. Currently, the song's music video sits at more than 121 million views.

After continuing to promote with TREASURE for about two years, Yedam began to think about what he wanted his career to look like in the future. He realized that while he did enjoy being in a band, he wanted to focus more on being a producer instead. Therefore, on November 8, 2022, it was announced that he had terminated his exclusive contract with YG Entertainment and would be leaving the group.

Bang Yedam stayed out of the limelight for several months, carefully considering his next steps. Eventually, he signed with GF Entertainment and began working on a solo album. On November 10, 2023, Yedam put out a pre-release single, "Miss You," and on November 23, his much-anticipated debut EP One One came out.

Be sure to keep an eye on the budding career of Bang Yedam!
