KATSEYE Kicks Off First Tour with Live Debuts

Their milkshake seems to have worked as Katseye kicked off their first headlining run, The Beautiful Chaos Tour, at the Minneapolis Armory on Saturday (11/15), performing in front of a packed crowd.

Sophia Laforteza (Manila, Philippines), Megan Skiendiel (Honolulu), Daniela Avanzini (Atlanta, GA), Lara Raj (Los Angeles), Manon Bannerman (Zürich, Switzerland) and Yoonchae Jeong (Seoul, South Korea) rocked a 20-song set that included seven live debuts and two covers in a room that's just a short walk from First Avenue.

Of the seven live debuts, one came from last year's EP SIS (Soft Is Strong) , and two were unreleased originals, including “Internet Girl.” And three others, “Girls Don’t Like,” “Dirty Water” and “All the Same,” which was the gooey center of the set came from their competition era.

The final live debut, “Monster High Fright Song,” was a newly added cover from the 2010 the cartoon series.

The young women are already having a great end-of-2025 when they were nominated for two Grammys: best pop duo/group performance for “Gabriela,” as well as Best New Artist.

“It’s all settling in and I feel like I haven’t fully come to my — I don’t know — I feel like it hasn’t settled in fully that we are nominated for two Grammy Awards,” Melanie told Billboard last week when they were notified.

Although it is great to be nominated, can you imagine a tougher category than duo/group performance for next year's awards?

The women are up against Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “30 for 30,” Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's “Defying Gravity,” “Golden” from Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami of KPop Demon Hunters’ Huntr/X group, and what is probably the favorite, Rosé and Bruno Mars’ “APT."

Their chances for Best New Artist are way better as they're up against Olivia Dean, The Marías, Addison Rae, sombr, Leon Thomas, Alex Warren and Lola Young.

They dodged a bullet when compared to last year when the noms for New Artist were Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Khruangbin, RAYE, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey and Teddy Swims.

Grammy-nominated "Gabriella" live in MN

"We’re so new, so to even be in the same category as these amazing artists is so, so cool," she told the magazine. "But to be able to share the nomination with some of our friends like Addison, sombr and Alex, it’s really, really cool and I’m proud of each and every one of them as well.”

Even though it may feel to some that Katseye has been around forever, their full length album, Beautiful Chaos, only dropped in June.

The live debut of "Girls Don't Like."

SIS centered on early material tied to the immediate post Debut period, while Beautiful added better production, new songwriting teams and next level bangers including “CHAOTIC,” “Gnarly,” and the tender “Mean Girls."

Those unfamiliar with this new entry to the girl group trend may have heard their cover of “Milkshake,” they did for a GAP commercial

That Kelis tune, which feels like it came yesterday, is actually 22 years old now - two years older than the average age of these performers.

So yes, you're old. And by you, I mean me.

Another tune on the setlist worth noting is “Time Lapse,” which was released earlier this year for the soundtrack to the Korean drama Good Boy.

Meanwhile “Monster High Fright Song,” also got its live debut in Minneapolis last weekend.

And yes, god bless even the mean girls

The Minneapolis Armory is nearly 100 years old and was renovated for concerts in 2018 just in time for Dua Lipa (2018) and Billie Eilish (2019). Not long ago the Arctic Monkeys (2023) and Janelle Monáe (2023) also played the joint.

While some have called it quits as winter approaches, Katseye will be on the road playing theaters like The Anthem, The Hollywood Palladium, and the Teatro Metropolitan.

Then next year you will see them at Lolla in South America and then Coachella. Get your tix on Katseye's website.
