The Strokes Announce First Date of their "Global Comeback"

The Strokes are back! 2019 will mark their first shows in two years, as they just announced top billing at Spain's Bilbao BBK Festival, taking place July 11-13. They will perform along the likes of Suede, Thom Yorke, and Weezer. Frontman Julian Casablancas' solo project, The Voidz, is also on the bill. Check out the poster below.

A representative for The Strokes confirmed that this first date is part of a "global comeback," and further European and world festival dates are expected to be announced soon, so stay tuned.

The group's last full studio album release was 2013's Comedown Machine, and four-song EP Future Present Past which was released in 2016. The global comeback tease could mean the possibility of a new full-length in 2019. Back in January, Casablancas told Beats 1’s Matt Wilkinson in regards to a new Strokes album: “We’re always talking but I think yeah, if anything it would be 2019 — that zone, but nothing now.”

Casablancas has kept busy with the Voidz, releasing their sophomore album Virtue back in March and touring tirelessly behind it. Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. also released a solo album in the same month, Francis Trouble. He already has tour dates lined up for the new year.

The Voidz rarely cover The Strokes during their performances, but did perform "I'll Try Anything Once" a handful of times this past year. Hammond Jr. is in the same boat, he performed Strokes songs a few times during his tour this year, including "Elephant Song" and "One Way Trigger."
