2022 in Review: Sam MacPherson

Sam MacPherson had a busy 2022. Not only did he put out even more new music and officially sign with Elektra Records, he also spent time on the road supporting Jake Scott.

The New Jersey native singer-songwriter calls his lyrics “cinema-graphic.” His sound is based on the classics he grew up on including The Beatles and Stevie Wonder. He brings a little bit of the past with him into the future looking into 2023.

We talked to Sam about the past year and he told us about family, surprising fan moments and what to expect in the next year.

Sam's tour vlog

What was your favorite show that YOU played this year? Tell us about it.

My favorite show I played this year was probably the NYC show I played with Jake Scott. We played Webster Hall and I had a lot of family and friends come up from New Jersey to see me. It was the first time a lot of them had ever seen me perform, so it felt like a special night.

What was your favorite show that you SAW this year?

My favorite show I saw this year was without a doubt The Brook & The Bluff the first night I opened for them. I was absolutely blown away by their stage presence and musicianship.

Can you share a favorite touring memory from this year?

I played a show in Birmingham, Alabama, and as I was playing I thought I was hearing my own voice echoing in the venue as I was playing the songs. But after taking one of my in-ears out, I realized it was actually the crowd singing the words to all my songs. It was a complete surprise to me and a really cool moment.

What do you have planned for 2023?

For 2023 I’m planning on putting out a lot more music and playing my first ever headline shows which I’m really looking forward to.
