AC/DC will be on the highway to North America next spring, the band announced Monday.
Angus Young, Brian Johnson and the boy must have enjoyed their time with Taylor Momsen and her band last summer in Europe because The Pretty Reckless are joining them again on their 13 dates beginning on April 10 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Together they will be performing in some of the largest venues AC/DC has ever played in the US.
Despite being one of the most popular bands of all time, and the kings of arena rock, that's typically where the hard rock legends play when they come to North America: basketball and hockey arenas.
For example, over their 40 years of rocking out in Los Angeles, they've played 33 gigs in and around the city. More than a third of those have been at The Forum. Their largest performance was at Dodger Stadium in 2015 when over 55,000 fans rocked their little hearts out.
When the band comes to LA next year they'll be at the Rose Bowl which U2 was able to seat 97,000 fans at during their 360° Tour. While the other stadiums they'll visit won't be that large, they'll still be much bigger than any baseball park or NBA arena.
Acrisure Stadium - 68,400
Allegiant Stadium - 65,000
AT&T Stadium - 80,000
BC Place - 54,500
Ford Field - 65,000
Gillette Stadium - 65,878
Huntington Bank Field - 67,341
Nissan Stadium - 69,143
Northwest Stadium - 67,150
Raymond James Stadium - 75,000
Soldier Field - 61,500
U.S. Bank Stadium - 73,000
What's also interesting about the announcement is it reveals that the accidental leak of the Minneapolis show date was in fact true.
You may recall in November a sharp-eyed fan noticed a Facebook event was created on the AC/DC FB page advertising an April date for a gig in Minnesota. The event was quickly deleted but not before people took screenshots and hard rock websites announced what everyone hoped would be realized: AC/DC was going to rock the US in the spring of 2025.
All of it was true including the kickoff date in the land of 10,000 Lakes.
What should one expect out of the band's set? During the Euro leg of the tour, AC/DC had a pretty consistent setlist. Not as tight as Iron Maiden's but once the band worked out some kinks in Germany they stuck to the program.
It's a greatest hits set with a few numbers from the new album, which is fine, as Power Up is a shockingly good record for their 18th studio offering.
It's so solid even more of the tunes could be rotated in and out if the band got weary of the same old same old, and the fans would not be disappointed.
Would it be nice if instead of the old chestnuts, the band played Back in Black in its entirety to celebrate that classic's 45th anniversary next year?
Yes. But don't get me started.
Would it also be nice if Angus jammed with Taylor of The Pretty Reckless for one song, like Soundgarden did with her in 2019?
Yes, but this too would be a miracle, as Angus has only jammed with one band outside of his own. He only did it once (if you don't count the Rock Hall of Fame - which I don't). And it was only for one song. And that was with The Stones when they played on the same bill.
AC/DC fans in North America, rejoice. Some of you may have asked for a mistress for Christmas, but the rest of us wanted this: another tour with a hot opening band, in some of the largest stadiums in the land.
Tickets to go on sale on Dec. 6 at noon local time at AC/DC's website.
