Brazil is going to get a triple dose of punk rock next September in São Paulo when Green Day, the new incarnation of the Sex Pistols, and the topless Iggy Pop will be headlining the second The Town festival.
Green Day, the East Bay '90s pop punk trio take the Skyline Stage on September 7, 2025. They return to the enormous South American country after entertaining the masses at 2022's Rock in Rio.
Setting the tone before Green Day will be Sex Pistols with 40-year-old hardcore singer Frank Carter on the mic.
Behind him will be the band's original members Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock.
The quartet raised eyebrows earlier this year playing benefit gigs and proving that there very well could be Pistols without Johnny Rotten.
Over on The One Stage, still lusting for life will be 77-year-old Iggy Pop who, no doubt will be doling out hits from his days with The Stooges, along with his solo material, including tracks from his latest album, Every Loser .
It'll be interesting to see if Green Day will continue to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their breakthrough album Dookie.
This year they've been playing that album in its entirety along with American Idiot. A very punk rock way of supporting their newest album Saviors.
Or will they finally feature their new material now that audiences have had time to sit with it?
What's great about Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool: anything's possible.
Speaking of... lest you think the entire The Town fest is for the punk rock crowd, Katy Perry will be closing down the fest on September 14, so no need to get a sitter, bring the kids.
The Town is scheduled to take place September 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14, 2025, at the Interlagos Racetrack. Get your tickets on The Town website.
