The Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, Sublime, The Linda Lindas and others performed to a sold out Kia Forum this weekend celebrating mostly '90s rock which continues to dominate the once-influential station known as being The Rock of the '80s.
It was the fourth time this year the Pumpkins played LA in 2024.
In September they stopped by the SiriusXM Garage for six songs, the next day the Chicagoans performed five tunes for Jimmy Kimmel, a few days before that they opened for Green Day on the Saviors Tour.

So in a way this was their first proper headlining show in 2024 in the nation's second largest city, thus they played 15 songs in their 74th gig of the year.
But it won't be their last.
On New Years Eve both Chance the Rapper and the Pumpkins will perform at Chicago's Wrigley Field as part of the outdoor NHL hockey game between the Chicago Blackhawks and their longtime rivals Detroit Red Wings. Tickets available on NHL.com.
The Smashing Pumpkins
The Pumpkins are no strangers to covers. At the show on Saturday (12/14), they covered U2, Fleetwood Mac, and David Bowie.
It was their 12th time giving love to "Ziggy Stardust" this year with guitarist James Iha giving Billy Corgan a break on vocals. Fans were also delighted to see the newest member, Kiki Wong, is still rocking out as the third guitarist.
Beck
Another Gen Xer whose career was aided a great deal decades ago by the Pasadena radio station whose upper management went to MTV when it launched in the '80s was Beck.
The alt-rocker and Grammy-winner made his 8th appearance in LA in 2024, just two months after he appeared at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music to honor Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The 54-year-old Los Angeles native played the hits for the KROQ fans but noticeably didn't including any tracks from his latest studio album, Hyperspace, which came out in 2019. The newest material he rocked out to in Inglewood was two tracks from 2017's Colors.
This is not that unusual as he's only performed tracks from Hyperspace 86 times whereas he's had songs from Colors in his sets 670 times. Quite the drop off.
However he did perform "Debra," which is worth the price of admission.
Beck will be at the Innings Festival next year. Get tix off his site.
Franz Ferdinand
Franz Ferdinand were not afraid to bombard the room with new songs. In January the Scottish group that's been around over 20 years will drop their sixth LP, The Human Fear.
To celebrate they played four tracks from the forthcoming album as well as a few of their hits like "Take Me Out." Why release an album so close to Christmas but not before the gift-giving season? I'll never know.
Likewise, why drop a record in January and only have one gig that month? Their tour really gets started in February. Tix available on their site.
Jimmy Eat World
Speaking of covers, the Arizona band Jimmy Eat World understood the assignment when they mixed Wham!'s "Last Christmas" with one of their own, "Bleed American."
Perhaps next year KROQ should include the stipulation that if you are going to accept to play on the bill, you should promise to do a Christmas song.
Jimmy Eat World flies to Japan for two shows in January. If you can't make it there, they'll be at Coachella in April. Get tix on their website.
The Linda Lindas
Local darlings The Linda Lindas delivered a seven song set where five of the cuts were from their latest album, No Obligation, which came out in October. It's their second record on Epitaph.
This spring they go out on tour to support the record they created from the heart.
“We don’t make music out of obligation — we make music out of love,” the band said in a statement in September.
It was their third visit to Inglewood this year. The first was when they opened for The Rolling Stones. Then they opened for Green Day.
In the spring they'll be the headliners. Get your tix on their website.
