As for the Replacements/Portland, it was indeed the Pine St. show. The Young Fresh Fellows opened and both bands got pretty trashed before the show and were egging each other on. Both bands shaved off their eyebrows (which Westerberg quipped, "automatically lowers your IQ") and kept trying to interrupt each other's set.
The whole thing kind of spiraled out of control and the 'Mats set was a disaster, topped off by them throwing a couch out the second story window at Pine Street after the show.
Afterwards the band realized what an eff-ed up show it was and acknowledged it by writing "Portland" and by etching "We're sorry" and "Portland" in the inner groove of each side of the "Don't Tell A Soul" vinyl LP.
Hope that clears up the story. I'm a huge Replacements fan--their live shows (even the disasters) were some of the best concert experiences I've ever experienced.
