The Voidz Kick Off Fall 2018 Tour

Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) and his six-piece, 1980s-inspired band, The Voidz, have officially kicked off a fall tour in support of their new album Virtue.

After a summer performing with Promiseland, another member of Casablancas’ Cult Records Label, at a residency in New York, the group is hitting some major cities throughout the country and will open a few shows for Beck and Phoenix.

The Voidz kicked off the tour last night (September 13th) at the Armory in Minneapolis for a sold out show.

The group opened for Beck in what was described as a “short [but] generally well-received set.” Some fans were disappointed in the set's brevity, but one fan captured the band’s lengthy rendition of Tyranny’s “Human Sadness," watch below.

Virtue, the band’s sophomore project, was released back in March. The hour long, 15-track album has a psychedelic and retro flair with songs like “Leave It In My Dreams” and “QYURRYUS,” which came out as singles prior to the album’s initial release.

Pitchfork compared the group to “The Turkish Star Wars” version of The Strokes: “a proudly low-rent, audacious, bizarre-world transfiguration that’s equally admirable and repellent.”

In comparison to the band’s first album, 2012’s Tyranny, Casablancas called Virtue “more sleek and polished, but it’s still futuristic prison jazz.”
