Recap + Photos: Band Together Bay Area

Over 40,000 music fans in Northern California attended The Band Together Bay Area concert last Thursday at San Francisco's AT&T Park. The purpose of the power packed concert was to aide Northern California's fire relief in wake of October's devastating wildfires. The Northern California festival featured legendary artists local to the area like Metallica, Dead & Company, Dave Matthews, Rancid, and G-Eazy to name a few. The concert raised $17 million, which will be donated to the Tipping Point Community Relief Fund, a nonprofit whose mission is fighting poverty and assisting low income communities in the Bay Area.

Punk rock pioneers Rancid, true to their Berkeley roots, performed a 7-song setlist at Band Together Bay Area. The group kicke off their set with "Radio," one of the opening tracks from their second studio album Let's Go. The band included a track from their latest release and ninth studio album Trouble Maker, "Telegraph Avenue" and "Journey to the End of the East Bay" from their 1995 release ...And Out Come the Wolves. Both tracks honor their hometown of Berkley and the cities' activism.

Metallica performed an 11-song setlist, kicked off with their tenth studio album's opening track "Hard Wired." The performance hit close to home for the metal icons. Guitarist Kirk Hammett nearly lost his Sonoma's Mission Highlands home in the fire. Hammett told the San Francisco Chronicle: "On the Cal Fire map, the fire ends right on top of my house. The reality is that it ended at my front gate. It's brutal. The mental and psychological toll is what I always think about."

The band released a statement that they were "proud" to take part in the Band Together Bay Area concert "to assist the families impacted by the fires and show our immense appreciation to the thousands of first responders who have been working tirelessly since the fires began."

Northern California, the community that we have called home for over thirty-four years, endured devastating wildfires. We're extremely saddened by the suffering that so many are feeling in the Bay Area, but are also inspired by the enormous outpouring of love and support from all around the country.
