Setlist Psychic: Lorde

Our favorite moody pop princess Lorde has a North American tour just around the corner. On March 1 she’ll begin touring on her much acclaimed and Grammy nominated second studio album Melodrama, which was released last June (2017). The tour kicks off in Milwaukee and ends April 15 in Nashville.

Lorde is a true queen at mixing together every sub-genre of pop you can think of, but she doesn’t perform like a typical pop artist. Instead, she’s known for her eccentric outfits, unruly dance moves, and a hypnotizing aura she creates while on stage. This tour already hints at revealing a side of Lorde we haven’t seen before. Her Twitter photos boast of backup dancers and noteworthy openers that include Run The Jewels, Tove Stryke and Mitski.

Her latest album is packed with emotion, heartbreak and the complexities of a young women emerging out of her shell. You can bet this tour will mimic that mood in a profound way. She’s already teased that she’ll be performing unreleased music, adding that we’ll “be quite excited for this tour.”

While the tour is undoubtedly going to be full of surprises and unreleased tracks, here are five songs my Lorde senses are telling me to anticipate.

Royals: This is a no-brainer. “Royals” was her claim to fame and according to our stats, it’s her most performed song. Not only is it her number 1 hit, but it’s admittedly a crowd pleaser and Lorde is known for her generosity and commitment when it comes to pleasing her fans. This song will definitely be played at every show.

Green Light: Being the first single followed by the announcement of Melodrama, Lorde will 100% be performing this synth-pop banger. It was co-written and co-produced with Jack Antonoff and has already been performed on Saturday Night Live and at Coachella. It was the first song she wrote for the album with lyrics that imply her first step in moving on from an earth-shattering heartbreak. I can see her delivering this hit accompanied by her staple spastic, freestyle dance moves.

Tennis Court: This song is from her debut album but the well-acclaimed hit was performed a lot on her Melodrama World Tour last fall, so I have a confident feeling we’ll be hearing this one quite a bit on the North American run. And if you’re anything like me, it’s the perfect sing-a-long track that does a great job at making you feel inclusive and part of the Lorde experience.

Homemade Dynamite: It’s a radio hit and it’s already been remixed by the likes of DJ Khalid. There’s no way this song, off the new album, will be missed in Lorde’s set. For one, it features Lorde rapping which, in my humble opinion, will be a treat to see live. While it’s noted to be one of her more “underrated” songs, it’s still been a part of her Melodrama World Tour as an energizing opener.

Magnets (Disclosure cover): Lorde slays at playing covers, and I’m betting that she will cover “Magnets” by Disclosure at some point on her North American tour. She played it at her most recent show in Seattle and our data indicates that she played it over 50 times in the past year. This song is technically half a cover, since Lorde co-wrote it with the band. The gloomy yet upbeat demeanor of the song fits perfectly into her Melodrama setlist so it makes sense that she’d include this special track on there.
