Artist to Check Out at Coachella 2019: Men I Trust

Canada has done it again. They've gifted us with another band to obsesses over. Please meet Men I Trust, a dream pop band hailing from Montreal. The dreamy three-piece has released several singles and albums independently, and that's exactly how they want it to be. No labels, no agent, no bulls*it.

The elusive band, made up of bassist Jessy Cason, multi-instrumentalist Dragos Chiriac and vocalist and guitarist Emma Proulx, put out their first self-titled record in 2014. They've been doing things on their own terms since, and they plan on keeping it that way.

“It’s only significant to spread the band’s music and aesthetic – these things need constant work and cannot be given to someone else to do on your behalf,” Dragos explained in an interview.

Their independent success is admirable and clearly evident that hard work really is the ticket. They landed a slot on this year's Coachella line-up, could they possibly be the first un-signed band on the bill?

They also have managed to capture attention from big name artists like Tyler, the Creator, who personally asked them to perform at 2018's Camp Flog Gnaw.

Men I Trust's delicate musings will be a welcomed breath of fresh air in the hectic and hot Coachella valley. Right ahead of their performance, they dropped a new silky single called "Numb." The song is off of their forthcoming album Oncle Jazz, which was meant to be released back in February, but as of now has no official release date.

"Numb"

Proulx's delicate voice, which carries a delightful lisp, is reminiscent of 1990s singer-songwriter Sophie B. Hawkins. "As I Lay Me Down," anyone? Her voice is paired with musical stylings that beat to the same drum as some of her peers, like Mild High Club, The Marias, and Clairo.

"Show Me How"
"Seven"

Speaking of, ahead of their weekend one Coachella appearance, they performed with buddy Clairo at the El Rey in Los Angeles on April 11th.

Their setlist has been a mix of singles both old and new, including ones you CAN'T find on Spotify.

Check out their setlist from show at Anaheim's Chain Reaction last night!
