Tour Update: Simple Plan Reflect On The Impact of Their Music

The Defining Moment
"We always see people, and it's often the same people that travel to many shows, and they'll be in the front row and every single night when we play certain songs, you'll see them like crying and like having these reactions where they turn to their friend and and they go oh they're playing this song! And being a fan of music, myself, I know what it's like when you hear the first few notes of a song and it's like your favorite. Like, man this is my moment, this is why I came to the show."

The Ideal Setlist
"We have a lot of discussion on that, on what we should play live, what the setlist should be. I think that we've been fortunate enough and I'm so grateful that we have songs that are undeniable like we need to play that song. If we don't play that song it doesn't feel like a complete Simple Plan show. We've always seen ourselves as a peoples band, and if said people want to hear a song, then they're right and we should be grateful and happy that we have songs that have had impact on people and that can still resonate today. So to have that is a true gift and we're like we're not going to be snobby and be like we don't play that anymore or that's not us anymore- no, no, everything is part of our history and if people want to hear it, it makes us so happy to play it. And one thing we're trying to do on this record, on this next cycle, we've talked a lot about, is trying to bring in- I call them like the 'wild cards.' We want to have this 3 or 4 different slots every night, that are going to change. We have so much material now, so much catalogues, so I think every show is going to be a little different. We're going to have these three-four songs rotate and come in and out. I think that's going to make the show a lot more exciting and kind of unpredictable for the fans and for us.I think it'll be a lot more fun."

Performing "Where I Belong" Live
"So I think it's going to be one of those special moments when everybody comes on. I'm not sure how we're going to work it out yet to be honest with you, because I don't know if we're going to have 5 guitar players. I mean definitely the singers will be there. I'm kind of thinking that we'll swap with the State Champs drummer like right in the middle, that bridge where the drums stop, I'll have him come in and kind of finish the song. You know, I think that could be really cool."
