Peter Murphy Kicks Off 40 Years of Bauhaus 2019 US Tour

Attention goths: our Godfather has landed in the States and officially kicked off the 40 Years of Bauhaus Ruby Celebration Tour at the City National Grove in Anaheim, California last night.

Peter Murphy and David J joined forces last year to perform their formative album, In The Flat Field, in full, along with other essential Bauhaus cuts around Europe and the UK. The band has finally made their way to North American and kicked things off last night with a two-setter. The first set, as mentioned, was a play-by-play of In The Flat Field, Bauhaus' debut album from 1980.

The second set featured a showcase of extended Bauhaus classics. The second half of the setlist is slightly different from their 2018 tour. The set sees the band performing "King Volcano" and "Kingdom's Coming" more. No rare deep cuts have been added to this year's setlist, YET. It's only the first night of a long tour so don't rule out surprises along the way.

"Burning From the Inside," "Bela Lugosi's Dead," "Dark Entries," and "She's in Parties" were all part of the second set. Murphy and David J delivered two encores for their opening night. The first encore carried four-tracks which included "The Passion of Lovers" and their dazzling, goth-ified rendition of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust."

The second encore was a one-song deal - Dead Can Dance's "Severance." The tour will make its rounds around the States before wrapping back in California at The Novo in Los Angeles on February 28th. Following the tour, Peter Murphy will participate in a special residency at the intimate Chapel venue in San Francisco, where he will be performing various Bauhaus works over the course of 15 dates.
