The Smashing Pumpkins are pulling out all the stops for their Shiny and Oh So Bright. Their prodigious 31-song setlist has got a little bit of everything from their first five releases, as promised and more. They've been covering "Space Oddity" by David Bowie, "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, "Baby Mine" by Betty Noyes and, of course, "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac.
Other fun things you can find on the tour is a solo of "Disarm" by Billy Corgan, two interludes by Mark McGarth? Yeah, we were confused about that too, but he's there! The original four-piece (sans D'arcy Wretzky) have been playing beloved fan favorites like "Siva," "Mayonaise," "Zero," "Porcelina of the Vast Oceans," "Hummer," and "Muzzle" among other hits.
Considering that SP is generously reaching deep into their vault to bring us a sonic experience, I think us fans know there are a few obvious tracks still being neglected. Their setlist hasn't moved around too much, but I think the band has it in them to squeeze these missed deep cuts in there.
Song: "Daydream"
Album: Gish
Last Played: An alternate version was last performed in 2008. Wouldn't the best tour surprise guest be D'arcy? This is unlikely, but if Billy and D'arcy were to miraculously squash their beef, a special performance of this track would be better than a daydream...
Song: "Sweet Sweet"
Album: Siamese Dream
Last Played: This very underrated Siamese Dream track was last performed live September 5, 1995.
Song: "Cupid De Locke"
Album: Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Last Played: A very dreamy track that hasn't been played since December 8, 2008 that rightfully deserves a spot on this tour's setlist.
Song: "Luna"
Album: Siamese Dream
Last Played: Another banger off Siamese Dream that shockingly hasn't been performed by the original band since 1994. It was played a few times in 2012 but we'd LOVE to hear this be resurrected with the OG line up, please and thank you.
Song: "Bodies"
Album: Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Last Played: This trailblazing banger off Melon Collie hasn't hit the stage since 2008 and was last performed with the OG line up back in 1997. This is probably one of the most sensical bring back's they could do, so... We're waiting!
Listen to these tracks, and other deep cuts we are dying SP to bring back on this reunion tour, on our Spotify "Bring it Back" Playlist!
