Willie Nelson & Bob Dylan Announce Outlaw Music Fest

Willie Nelson is 90 years old and doesn't seem to have any desire to stop touring.

In comparison, Bob Dylan is a spry 82 and his Never Ending Tour has no plans for ever ending.

Together the two American legends announced Tuesday that they will co-headline the 2024 Outlaw Music Festival with several other big stars like Robert Plant and John Mellencamp.

Also on the stacked bill depending on the location will be Alison Krauss, Billy Strings, Brittney Spencer, Celisse, and Southern Avenue.

The tour kicks off on June 21 in Georgia. The troubadours zig zag around the US with some healthy breaks, some big dates including at the Hollywood Bowl, and wraps up in the middle of September in Buffalo.

The last time Willie was at the Hollywood Bowl was just last spring to celebrate the big nine-oh. It was a two-day parade of guest singers and legends on their own right paying tribute to the red headed stranger.

Stars from Keith Richards to Beck, Tom Jones to the Chicks, Bob Weir to Dwight Yoakam duetted with the humble man whose watch always says 4:20.

Dylan has been on his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour since 2021.

While it's always a treat to see The Bard in concert, more than half of the night has been dedicated to playing 9 of the 10 tunes from Dylan's most recent studio album. For better or for worse the one he doesn't play is "Murder Most Foul," the 17-minute dredge about the JFK assassination - which also happens to be his only #1 hit.

Imagine playing music for more than 50 years but refusing to play your only chart topper? Oh, Bob.

Then there's Robert Plant. The one and only voice of Led Zeppelin. For about half of the tour he and Alison Krauss will perform before Willie and Bob. On other dates John Mellencamp will get the crowd going.

Will Plant bust out with some "Stairway to Heaven"? He's only played it once in 16 years and that was back in October. So don't count on it.

As for Mellencamp, he took the stage 82 times last year and pretty much all of his big hits made it into the show.

Don't get there late if Brittney Spencer is on the bill.

It's hard to tell if Spencer will be helped or harmed with Beyoncè's forthcoming country album. For Brittney, country music is her thing, not just a one-off.

A few years ago she posted a cover of The Highwoman's tune "Crowded Table" to Twitter which took off. She is a genius selection for this tour of outlaws who don't fit perfectly in typical boxes.
